Villa v Derby Play Off Final - Paul Tierney

I must say I wasn't convinced that Tierney was the right choice
for this match but I thought he had a pretty decent game. It
was always likely to be a feisty affair but he refereed it very
sensibly and displayed a calm approach which kept the lid on
things in a game which was never going to be a classic with so
much at stake.

I actually thought it was a good game, and I thought Tierney was
impressive as well, I liked his calm and sensible approach when
things got feisty. It was probably going to get feisty at some
points as well, going by the semi finals, I'm sure Tierney
would've taken note of that before the game.
Prince William didn't seem to impressed with him though.

I thought Tierney put in a very good performance - it capped off
an impressive season for him.

I thought they handled the game very well. Remained calm when it
got slightly heated just into the second half.

I first came across Paul Tierney some years ago when he was
acting as 4th to a friend of mine who was referee and I was
there as my friend's guest. I found Tierney to be one of the
most pleasant officials I have met. Softly spoken and without a
huge ego, he nevertheless had focus and ambition and really
wanted to drive himself onwards towards the top of the
refereeing world. I instictively warmed to his manner and the
way he manifested his ambition and I've always hoped he would do
well. Now it seems he has and I am very pleased for him
