Or, the other way, the likes of Taylor, Oliver etc in the
       Championship? I also doubt it.
(and now i've said that we'll probably get "SG1" at the
Toughsheet for the opening day derby match against Preston
       now.....)

Corporate statements about organisational changes all tend to be
cut from the same cloth nowadays. So before reading the
announcement about ‘Pro Ref’, I scribbled down, just for fun,
20 words that I expected to be in it:

       opportunity-initiative-exciting-dynamic-direction-pathway-strategy-revitalise-

       delivery-performance-progress-focus-vision-stakeholders-identity-strengthen-
       ongoing-enhance-structure-transformation.
By and large, at the end of the day, and taking everything into
account, I was gratified to find most of the usual suspects
       present.
The surprise omission was ‘exciting’. That is always there! A
       trick has been missed.

Macho Man to appear at Craven Cottage before Gillett this

Will the assistants still be two separate lists or will
championship assistants be full time now..?

As I understood it, previously, National list referees could be
appointed as fourth official in Championship games supporting an
SG2 referee and assistants (in the same way SG2 refs could be
appointed as fourth official in the Premier League).
Now SG2 has merged with SG1 and the Supp list, will National
referees now be "supporting the Professional Group" - i.e, could
be appointed as 4O at any "Professional Group" game, or will
there still be SG1/SG2 type division in this case and they'll
only be allocated to the Championship side of things? It seems
a bit unfair on them to say "we've merged the top lists and see
them all as equal, but, although we think you're good enough to
work alongside them, you're only as equal as the lower half of
       them"
Former SG2 refs, who previously "could get the opportunity to
step up to be fourth official in the Premier League" will now
automatically get those opportunities - if not more of them -
now the groups are merged. So will this mean there will be
enough to go around without needing National referees to act as
fourth? That would affect the development and promotion
opportunities with less spots available for trials.
I assume all the former SG2 refs will be being trained on VAR to
become equal to their SG1 colleagues and allow that merged group
to operate as one. This may still need others to make up
       numbers as 4O.
Unless, as previously discussed, SG1 and SG2 have been merged to
the "Professional Group" in name only and the divisional levels
       of appointments will still remain.

What change would you like to see and why?
       [/quote]
For starters, HW out and replaced with a referee who is very
recently retired (last 2 seasons max), who understands the
current demands and requirements and empowers referees to make
       the decisions themselves on field.
VAR should be there to assist, not re-referee games or
decisions, it almost appears that HW has created a scare culture
where referee's on-field are second guessing themselves but you
only have to watch a few Mic'd up episodes to see the mixed
messaging, so it's no surprise there's inconsistency.
Set out our messaging at the start of the season and stick to
       it!

I had been wondering whether this was in part a money-saving
exercise, though mention of increased funding, suggests this may
not, at least initially, be the case. But the potential for
more flexibility should helpful when a significant number of
referees are unavailable for appointments, as happened with SG1
at certain points during last season.

Same officials, some deserving to be there some not. Why not
start with them? Same **** VAR. Change names and logos, but
       fundamental issues will still remain

It’s all spin, piddle and froth, as my gentle p***take above
indicates. And I’m afraid, despite his undoubted good
intentions when he arrived, spin, piddle and froth is what Mr.
Webb’s tenure of PGMOL/Pro Ref, is going to be remembered for.
That saddens me, as he was such an outstanding referee.
