Very soft decision to disallow a goal because of slight contact
to the head when holding off an opponent.
Germans and contact with the face in the build up to goals
strikes again :)

Why is the player in control of the ball penalised in these
scenarios? It’s a joke of a decision. He’s being pulled where is
he supposed to put his hands?
Good spot for penalty but feel Zwayer was far from his best. May
get last 16/QF

I cannot comprehend the ‘soft touch’ approach (where hard
tackles and obvious fouls are being allowed to pass) with
overturning perfectly legitimate goals for very marginal
contact.
I thought the Vinicius Jr ‘foul’ on Hendry was correct, but it
was also directly in front of goal and an obvious trip. But the
foul against Germany, and the Congo DR ‘foul’ last night are
bewildering.
We’ve been knocking back very strong penalty calls, and then
overturning goals for nothing contact. I don’t think that’s what
anyone wants - surely?

This is a very good point. I’m in favour of the higher bar - not
literally letting everything go (Elfath) but waving away players
after normal football contact looking for very soft / invented
‘fouls’ even if 1/2 are borderline on replay. If it’s the same
both ways and keeps the game going then that’s great. The same
has to be done though for goals - VAR should be staying out of
these unless it’s a very clear (not subjective) error. Teams are
not soft - they must have the feeling that, if an attacker has
got away from you, and you’re likely not going to get back, the
better bet is to exaggerate any slight contact, as there’s a
good chance VAR will come to the rescue …
