Senegal v Iraq - Anthony Taylor

On field review for Taylor to upgrade a yellow card to red for
DOGSO. For me, the decision of yellow wasn’t clearly wrong and
the right back could have got across, therefore a wrong
       intervention

I would disagree, think var got it right the defender was too
       far away to cover

Agree, I could see why he went yellow on a first view but it was
       a correct intervention.

Not sure I agree with you there - I think the only reason it
looks like the right back might have been able to challenge is
because Mané was pulled back. Without the foul Mané's next touch
is either a shot, or he's in the box and one on one with the
       keeper, IMO.

I’ll also ask the question here
One for the statisticians amongst us - is this the first time in
the modern era (post 1958) when both final games in a single
group have had English referees on them?

I’m in the YC camp for me the YC isn’t wrong and should have
stood but had Taylor gone RC it would have been supportable
based on the fact VAR wouldn’t overturn it because it wouldn’t
be incorrect but there’s to much doubt for it to be DOGSO it’s
not a clear and /or obvious error so for me it has been
re-refereed especially given the high tolerance of fouls and
leniency we’ve seen in this tournament

I do see the argument for red, but it’s not a clear error. He’ll
have definitely needed a touch before shooting, and if it was in
the direction he was heading, the full back could have got
       there. Too much doubt

I think that there was probably sufficient uncertainty that a YC
       was likely correct.
Although the ultimate RC is support able too, I'm not entirely
convinced that, if there was perceived error, it wasn't either
       clear or obvious

I said red straight away. I Think VAR has to come in there. With
a VAR upgrade, potential negative consequences for Taylor for
       his tournament?)

On balance, this is the sort of thing I’d rather VAR stayed out
of. The referee make a live call which I think you can justify
either way. I can’t say VAR is wrong - I don’t know the guidance
FIFA has given VARs - but once called over,Taylor is left with
little choice but to give the red. The fact he took a while at
the screen tells me he wasn’t fully convinced straight away. Not
a big deal, as it will be generally accepted, mainly as it was
so cynical in the first place.
