The second looked like it occurred as a sub was being made, so
the game wasn't delayed. Unless I missed another

I thought they were only preparing the subs at that point rather
than making them, I looked back during the ad break definitely
no sub made
60:30 ball thrown on the pitch
63:25 subs are made

AR1 Mayo gave a clear throw the wrong way at one point and was
overruled. This also happened in Penso’s first game with Nesbitt
- the only ref I can think of where this has happened, and more
than once.
The high boot was clear as day and was a clear error, yet the
disallowed goal was very subjective (didn’t look much to me),
and VAR should never get involved. Other than that, generally
ok, but I always feel it’s a bit style over substance. Can
certainly sell decisions with body language, etc but a bit shaky
in places.
The kit colour situation is ridiculous at this level - how
difficult can it possibly be with six main colours plus other
extras to find a suitable colour that doesn’t clash with others,
including the GKs? Straight away the mint green colours looked
dodgy to me.

I have bided my time before commenting…I may be barred or
reprimanded but I have just left the DAI world…
I thought Tori was initilally a bit hyper which I could
understand…an early long chat could have easily been a very
quiet word..but I understand nerves.
She was regularly behind play and thus just a physical thing
…the Hugh boot with more experience and perhaps less nerves was
a quick foul…no risk and safe…softish but part of management in
a huge game…no one would have complained.
I understand the penalty decision but once again missed an easy
foul on half way which brings no argument and no attention….just
give it…no surprises…nice and easy.
I wish the team well but may I ask you a question…there is a
male team somewhere who missed out because of this tick box
exercise….i saw amazing lads miss out because diversity…I also
met some great girls who generally admitted to me they should
not be at that level.
She seems to have a nice personality and players responding to a
point…she has grabbed two players backs in a nice way showing
empathy but how would that work the other way.
I wish the team well but I think we all know deep down she is a
tokenism official and definitely not on of our top 40 teams.
Not her fault…I hooe she has an amazing experience

In her first game (Czech Rep. v South Africa) I noticed how
touchy-feely she was on a number of occasions with the male
players. It occurred to me then that a male referee doing the
same with female players would be criticised.

I agree. In all my time as a Referee, I never touched a player
physically, apart from customary handshakes. If they were being
aggressive to an opponent, I never intervened physically. Just
observed and took appropriate action.

I wasn’t able to see her female counterpart in action, Katia
Garcia, but it seems as if she had a quiet game with not much to
do. Apart from the Mexico stripes on her shorts being opposite
to the ones at the top of her shirt, just like Penso’s on her
first game. Whoever decides that needs to rethink!
Out of curiosity, who do we think has been the better of the 3
females at WC’s in recent times? Frappart, Penso or Garcia?
I was seeing people say Penso was ahead of Frappart, but now I
wonder if those views have changed. Obviously, all three are
different in their own ways, but just a curious comparison.

You are wrong. There is another team that missed out because of
her selection. You have no idea of the gender of the next team
in line.

The Refereeing Committee probably needs to spend more time on
the decision making of referees and VARs than creating extra
kits, when they can't even choose non-clashing options anyway.
And Frappart has been the best all-round referee of the three,
in my opinion. A stern persona, but a great decision-maker and
with superb movement and positioning. Garcia has the chance to
develop further over the coming years.

It was hard to assess Garcia’s performance as it was such a one
sided game (and I was half asleep) but I found her foul
detection was a bit erratic. I would like to see her again but
she’s probably not quite at the level for a knockout game
I could never really get on board with Frappart’s style but it
did work for her, it definitely commanded authority which Penso
seemed to struggle with this tournament. Esther Staubli was my
favourite female referee, it’s a shame we didn’t see her at a
men’s major competition
