Live I thought Pickford might've been going for an early shower,
after first replay I thought the ref called it right. I can
understand the ref not giving a foul for the Konsa challenge in
the penalty area on-field as he's caught out of position/bad
angle, but how the VAR hasn't recommended a review for it is
beyond me - he's dived in off the ground, clearly fouls the
attacker, the only touch of the ball he gets is it hitting his
arse as he lands! There was eventually an indirect free kick to
England for something*, but I'm not sure what it was for.
I think it was a difficult game to referee given how physical
both sides were - felt much like a PL game - but there seemed to
be a degree of randomness as to what was/wasn't being called as
a foul, and the incident with the Ghana defender staying down
after a collision with Kane was very poorly managed - he only
stops play after the keeper's thrown it straight to an England
player, 12 seconds after the contact happens, and then ends up
giving a Ghana free kick a further 30 seconds after that, while
also forgetting that the Ghana player needed to leave the FoP as
play was stopped for his 'injury'.
*EDIT: There was an offside in the goal area after the Konsa
challenge, for which the indirect free kick was taken just
inside the penalty area

Regarding the possible RC for Konsa for being last man , I
watched the match and didn’t see anything at all that was
offside . Yet the referee gave a offside decision , overall it
was just an underwhelming performance by the referee

I'm watching it again at the moment, the offside comes after the
Konsa 'foul' - Ghana player plays the ball forward while on the
floor, straight at his teammate in an offside position in the
goal area. The indirect free kick ends up being taken only just
inside the penalty area...

I thought he had a good game and struggle to understand the
number of complaints online. The penalty incident: I thought
Ghana had a strong shout, probably was a penalty but don’t think
it’s a howler. Don’t see how it can be a red card for Konsa
either? The Pickford one he called right. Everything else was
fine no issues for me

The ball to the Ghana player who was in an offside position was
played deliberately by an England defender so there was no
offside offence.
It was a clear penalty.

In real time I thought Pickford could be in trouble but it
certainly wasn't DOGSO. Again in real time looked a good tackle
by Konza so can understand the decison of play on but on 2nd
viewing definitely a penalty, can not see how it's DOGSO though
as its a genuine attempt to play the ball.
Not overly impressed with Martinez which started off when he
refused to call the Hydration brake when James and Ayew were
down around the 20th minute, surly common sense should have
prevailed? Set a low bar for free kicks and as such his foul
detection looked random, some FKs given for minimal contact, the
next minute some one gets barged in the back and he plays on.
Thought Bellingham was lucky not to get booked considering he
booked Rice for something very similar.

It’s an absolute stonewall penalty for Ghana. I cannot
understand why VAR hasn’t seen that and sent him to the screen.
If they get a penalty and score they potentially win 1-0 and
likely win the group. Massive repercussions on that now
Ref was ok nothing special but doubt we will see him again after
that

Couple of points, like the idea of the polls, saw it a couple of
times during the tournament and good quick way to see opinions.
However on this one I would have voted for 'racing incident - no
foul' both players take a rather odd detour away from the ball
at the last minute and clash together, I'd have just played on -
then there would have been chaos - free kick to England probably
the 'safe' decision
Would have been good to get a poll up for the Konsa challenge -
think 'penalty - yellow card' would have been the winner

2:42:20 - it looks like it's the attacker playing it to me.

hi,
average to poor performance by both team england and team ref
for me.
although ghana got a point, which i'm sure they would have taken
before the game, they might justifiably feel aggrieved at the
denial of a stonewall penalty. mr. martinez allowed some fairly
rough challenges, but also penalised some very soft ones which
created the impression of inconsistency. declan rice might feel
disappointed receiving a YC for somrthing so relatively
innocuous, especially with bellingham not being cautioned at the
stroke of, and during the walk from the field, at half time
our 'arry cut an increasingly frustrated figure the longer the
match went on and seemed to constantly be in the ref's ear about
some perceived injustice - he also appealed for a foul and went
down holding his head, then refused to be checked as part of the
concussion protocol.
thought in real time the pickford was a 50/50, but after seeing
replays, it just might be he made initial contact/obstructed the
attacker.
disappointing, but not unexpected, the amount of commentary that
mentioned how frustrated england would be without any mention of
how well ghana played.
reality check for the german of what england expects.
regards
gnr
