BBC don't seem to really be mentioning it but looked like a foul
by Pickford so should have been a red card and Konsa last ditch
tackle looked a foul as didn;t touch the ball and played the man
Think this ref has been poor and given too many wrong decisions
to England
Not sure why VAR didn't get involved and at least take a look

Agree with what you said, except the pickford part. I think the
ref got it right, for me the attackers foot is raised and
extended, not near the ball, before pickford is in challenging
distances and catches his shin.
Felt a bit erratic from the ref, not as good as his first
appearance, when i last saw him

I don’t think it was a foul by Pickford and was actually a good
decision. The Ghana player overruns the ball and Pickford
doesn’t make a challenge. The Ghana attacker jumps towards
Pickford with an outstretched leg. At best, it’s no foul either
way.
Generally not been impressed by Martinez. Nothing devastating or
any real howlers, but too much whistle and some very soft free
kicks. I felt like that stifled the game a little and think that
was what Kane was saying at half time. He just doesn’t come
across confident / strong enough for me and think if something
were to kick off there would be a struggle to control it.
Plenty of stronger performances in the tournament and not
expecting him to feature in the major latter stages.
EDIT: I’ve edited my post to remove the ‘no real howlers’ point.
I must have drifted off in the heat for the Konsa challenge.
Having seen it back, I think it’s a clear penalty. Jumps into a
challenge and makes no contact at all with the ball. Based on
the threshold Martinez set for penalising challenges during the
match, I’m surprised it wasn’t given. I think it’s clear enough
for VAR to intervene as well.

VAR is always ‘involved’ - they check everything automatically,
and understandably felt there was no clear error, as it was a
judgement/opinion call.
I thought Martinez was very good. Calm, strong authority but
stayed out of it where possible. YCs spot on and wasn’t
influenced by England players chirping at him.

Thought he got that one right but otherwise less convincing than
other refs for me. Funny how we all see each performance
differently and a lot feels based more on vibes than actual
evidence.

Would like to see the Konsa last man foul and potential Ghana
penalty again - looked like Konsa didn't get anything on the
ball. Think it may have been pulled back for an offside but
haven't seen replay yet.

The Konsa challenge was definitely a foul. He gave offside, but
there doesn't seem to have been one before the foul, only one
potentially after the foul challenge. Seems a massive error if
so, which could be the end of Martinez and Villareal's
tournament.
