Decent game for Barton too… he could go far in this tournament.

Yes - agreed. His performance in Scotland - Haiti was markedly
inconsistent with the approach for the rest of the tournament.
44 fouls (!) and couple of missed YCs and a clear wrong YC.
It wasn’t a dirty game yet 18 more fouls than Argentina -
Austria(!)

Given the match MO ended up with I'd have liked to see these
reversed, just for balance
My guess is these were always pencilled in and Collina et Al saw
no reason to change them
Certainly NOR FRA should hold few surprises
SEN IRQ will depend on who needs what come kick off. Both sides
can play, both sides can make things difficult, will be a good
test for AT

The NOR vs FRA game was always likely to happen. Think it speaks
to the different styles of Oliver and Taylor. Oliver is a much
more chilled, back seat referee much like Turpin, which works
well in these all-European, Premier League style matches. Taylor
a little bit more interventionist as a referee which should work
well in a potentially fiestier game such as SEN vs IRQ, so I
think it's sensible appointing.
Elfath's game is huge and has the potential to be a challenger -
and make or break for his WC hopes.

Elfath is fluent in Spanish too which certainly is a big bonus
when refereeing Uruguay and Spain!

She has also been a FIFA Referee since 2019, officiated in, the
last Woman's World Cup, Olympic Games, both Mens and Womens
World Cup Qualifiers in her region as well as other CONCACAF
tournaments, so is hardly inexperienced.

Out of the 4 non European referees appointed to England's
matchplay I would have taken any of them. I know the Canadian
would have been a continent breach but I thought he looked good.
Even with his "lack of mobility" I'd have taken Faghani too
Hopefully my fears of our ref will be unrealised

One for the statisticians amongst us - is this the first time in
the modern era (post 1958) when both final games in a single
group have had English referees on them?
