This suggests to me that the next set of appointments will be
UEFA/CAF heavy, with possibly Elfath dropped in there somewhere.

You could well be right. In these 6 games, 4 South American
referees. And I still tend to think of Mexican referees being
more South than North American, but that's just me. On that
note, I see Scotland have Ramos.
Just noticed Makkelie has Pinheiro as 4th. Is that significant
for the Portuguese official in terms of future matches as
referee?

Surely Oliver and Taylor will get appointments during the final
set of fixtures?

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Taylor get Norway v France.

I think it all depends on Collina. I thought that at first when
I saw Amin Mohamed as a 4th official just after he had refereed
a game, but he has just got another game so who knows! Eskas has
a 4th gig before he has even refereed yet, Penso got appointed
one just before she refereed a game, so I am guessing it is to
make up the numbers. Obviously, due to the loss of Omar Artan
for the tournament, they are down an official so it makes it
hard to only use support referees.

This probably takes out Pinheiro. Only 8 possible games for UEFA
officials and 11 still to receive them by my calculations.
Appointments are roughly 30-36 games apart so you can reasonably
predict who'll be on the next set of appointments. Only 2 games
open for UEFA officials in them. Wouldn't surprise me if Taylor
is one of them, possibly Paraguay vs Australia. Also expect
Elfath to be on one, either ECU vs GER or JPN vs SWE. I think if
Oliver gets a 2nd game it'll be FRA vs NOR. Not getting a 2nd
game won't necessarily mean anything though - could just be
being saved from potential controversy ahead of a 2nd round
appointment.

Given there are a lot more games this time round and that R32
starts the day after end of group stage it seems possible that
some high performing officials could go straight to R32 rather
than getting a second group game.

Yes and with 41 officials getting a first appointment but only
72 group games, at least 10 of those 41 won't get a 2nd group
game. For some, I suspect that'll be their tournament done. For
others, we'll see them again in the knockouts.

I really want to see Penso and/or Elfath again, Scharer possibly
might get a game, one of the Frenchman (unless both being saved
for KO’s), along with other officials around that had strong
starts.
