Ah, now there’s another referee I really liked, Carl Boyeson.
He was one of the first, possibly THE first, outside the top
flight, to ditch the ridiculous “caution procedure” and adopt
the card first/writing second method which is finally,
belatedly, thankfully
happily now (almost) universal in this country, having been so
throughout the rest of the world since the 1970s.
We get there in the end!
I still see one or two refs each season in non-league who insist
on going through the old rigmarole of beckoning the player to
the naughty step and writing what seems like the full report
before eventually showing the yellow card that everyone knew was
coming 45 seconds ago. Old habits die hard for some, I guess.

Just seen the player who got sent off for this got a 5 match
ban, seems crazy when you will see worse challenges go
unpunished (I mean no ban not on field unpunished)

A shame Poll didn’t t do that when he performed his three card
trick!
