Portugal vs DR Congo - Abdulrahman Ibrahim Al Jassim (QAT)

Was a little bemused that Danny Murphy thought the caution for
Bernardo Silva was 'harsh' when I thought it was almost worthy
of a review for SFP. Thought Ronaldo could've been cautioned for
       dissent too (as if...)
Not much else for the Qatari referee to do in the first 30
       minutes.

Interesting sequence with a corner being given after the goal
keeper took too long to take a goal kick and the portugal got
lined up to take a corner then decided to do a different routine
       taking far longer

‘Not sure why the referee is running over with such urgency’
       Same old commentators 🙄
Considering it was directly in front of one of the benches, do
we really want a repeat of Netherlands vs Argentina?

I can't get the thought of my head of his performance in the
2022 third place playoff which was one of the worst I've ever
seen - him smiling gently after the full time whistle when
hordes of Morocco players were screaming at him

I thought that was a good point by Murphy and an observation for
refs to consider. This was absolutely nothing, and the refs
reaction brought players with him to see what was going on. If
he’d stayed calm and just walked in, a flashpoint would have
       been avoided.
To be honest the way football is now, if it was something and
that close to the benches, you ain’t stopping it no matter how
       fast you run in.

Hmm. Not sure I agree with you there Mac. Remember the Nicolas
Jackson (Chelsea) over-the-top tackle in last year’s Club World
Cup? That happened right in front of the benches. Ivan Barton
had the red card aloft in record time, and kept it aloft as he
very rapidly ran in, arriving on the scene almost before anyone
else, and certainly before the angry opposition manager. This
forestalled the mass brawl that I am certain would have occurred
otherwise, and certainly in England where there seems to be at
       least one a week now.
For anyone who hasn’t seen the Jackson incident, have a look at
it on YouTube. It’s a masterclass from Ivan Barton in thinking
fast and acting fast. The once much-lauded “thinking time” is
a dangerous luxury in the modern game, where if the referee
doesn’t get in there PDQ, players will fill the void. And of
course coaches and subs too when it’s that near the benches.
In fact, judging by what we saw this season in England with SFP,
I doubt we’d have had a red card anyway (well, maybe Jared would
have spotted it instantly) and it would have been down to VAR to
upgrade the inevitable yellow once order had been restored.
Mr.Barton is a referee I like very much, and it’s a pity the pub
won’t be open at 5 am on Saturday for Turkey v Paraguay!

Oh it absolutely can, but only when there’s something in it. Far
side from the dugouts I know but I’m old enough to remember Rob
Styles sending off Milan Baros in the derby and saving carnage,
a decision that popularised the left pocket red card overnight.
But when there’s nothing in it I think it can be inflammatory.

Yes I absolutely agree with your last paragraph there Mac. I
probably didn’t make myself clear above but it was only your
last paragraph in your earlier post that I was taking issue
with, when you wrote “you ain’t stopping it no matter how fast
       you run in”.
Mr.Barton proved otherwise, as did Mr.Styles - on more than one
occasion, e,g. the Ashley Cole red card if you recall it.
So many of the Mass brawls I have seen in recent times (and
regrettably they are getting more frequent at non-league level)
have been nourished by the referee dithering. I agree though
that making a mountain out of a molehill is equally to be
       avoided.

       Whoops, I didn’t spot mass with a capital M.
Is the predictive text a Catholic?!?
