The tournament starts now imo. Hopefully the man who was at one
stage the world’s best, the oldest ref at the World Cup at 48
years now, hopefully absolutely smashes it !!! Love Faghani,
watch him a lot in Australia just a quality ref.

Perhaps it is just his style of running, but I would suggest at
this stage that fitness may be an issue as the game goes on. I
am sure with his vast experience he will cope, but he doesn't
present the same image as, say, younger officials like Letexier,
Oliver etc.
Saying that he is a referee I like as well. I hope he has a
great tournament.

It wasn't a great start for him. Warned Jackson twice before
the first corner was taken, then penalise Jackson even though it
was the French defender that stamped on his own keeper.

Safe to say PGMO have the upper hand on stadium announcements..
I know the crowds are much bigger, but can FIFA not teach them
to follow some sort of format?
After review…. this happened, that happened. My final decision
is this.

How was the announcement messy? It’s on the commentators for not
listening to what he said. Never a clear and obvious error I’m
not even sure Mane didn’t touch the ball

I thought the announcement was fine, however I’m stunned it
wasn’t a penalty. I need to rewatch as perhaps I’m just
misinterpreting the whole incident, to me the attacker doesn’t
initiate the contact, he is caught in his natural running motion
by defending player who doesn’t touch the ball.
It does seem to be splitting opinion, I think however FIFA view
it, it will be a tournament maker or breaker for Faghani.

Not convinced it was a penalty. From the refcam view highlight
on the BBC, you can see why Faghani didn't give the penalty
live. Watching the replays, I don't feel it was a clear and
obvious error either.
