Netherlands 🇳🇱 v Japan 🇯🇵 -

Haven’t seen this official before so will be interesting to see
how he gets on…
Could be a cracking game too, a decent appointment for him.
Miserable buggers on VAR, not even a look at the camera!

Boooooooo! I am expecting big things from Jarred and co at
midnight to make up for that!
Best of luck to all officials!

Elfath had a good last World Cup and should be a pretty safe
pair of hands. One of the better American referees in recent
years. Dependent on performances obviously, I'd put him in the
candidate list for the much latter games.

I see Elfath as a very strong final candidate. Believe he was
4th official in 2022, where he had a poor Portugal-Ghana but got
a couple more games which he did well in. Coming from a host
country should help him

If I wasn’t seeing things Elfath was half turned away when that
YC challenge happened, so that would’ve been a good call from
AR1 or the 4th/5th.
That’s if I wasn’t being completely blind, even with my glasses
on, but to me it looked like he had turned running the other
way, anticipating a pass forward.

I thought this was a good solid performance by Elfath in an
entertaining second half. No big decisions but controlled the
game well.
I’ve been quietly impressed by the officiating I’ve seen so far.
A lot of games seemingly delivered with the minimum of fuss
which is how it should be. Apart from the high profile start by
Sampaio (of course not his fault) it’s been a quiet tournament
for referees so far so let’s hope it stays that way.

Agree with the above about the officiating generally. Feels as
if we’ve stopped the previous obsession in WCs about avoiding
cards at all costs which led to what felt like a confusing
lottery of what was/wasn’t a card. Refs seem relaxed, are trying
to let games flow and just refereeing what’s in front of them,
as they judge that particular game, which is right.
Elfath seemed generally fine and kept control well. A ref I
don’t know very well and lots seem to laud, but I don’t quite
see the hype. Fitness seemed a bit off at times somehow, maybe
down to recent injury. He also tended to show cards from a long
distance which isn’t good practice, but guess fifa will be happy
in a high-profile game.

I doubt we’ll see anymore of those after the incident with the
Aussie VAR and the hand gesture before the Germany game.
Shame really as I was enjoying them
