The two DOGSO red cards correct in my opinion. The 1st is as
clear as your going to get, the one for Montes as split opinion
but correct for me. If he doesn't get fouled he is going to go
towards goal and get a shot away with no covering defender.
The red card for violent conduct is extremely harsh, yes he
makes contact with the face but its certainly not in a violent
manner. No need for VAR to get involved in re-referreing the
incident just wish Sampaio stuck to his decision of play on.
Overall decent enough but I hope in his next game he's a little
more subtle on the whistle and not blowing it 10 times after
awarding a foul etc.

Part of the criteria to be FIFA listed, is to be proficient in
English.

officials, the requirements are region specific i think

Are you sure about that? From speaking with various FIFA listed
officials at RA evenings, they have always said that English was
the standard for everyone, regardless. They don’t have to be
able to hold a political debate, but they need to be able to get
by in English.

The violent conduct red has to be a red - it's deliberate
contact to the head with the arm, it's not a challenge for the
ball, and it's more than negligible force.

to watch the next match. Hopefully it proves a spectacle!

me, its was region specific, they may have sold me short...

All FIFA referees have to have fluent English, it isn't just a
UEFA thing. But it is very different to EPL referees making
announcements, can you imagine how difficult it is to make an
announcement to a stadium of 60,000 people in a language that
isn't your main? Some of the EPL referees have sounded nervous
and they only speak English, it must be incredibly difficult
when you don't have a full understanding of the language.

I agree with this, Anthony Taylor or Michael Oliver making an
announcement at Fulham (sorry TTFL) or Brentford compared to at
this World Cup, say in a QF or SF in front of close to a hundred
thousand, same language but he may sound slightly different. He
will be nervous no doubt, I’ll let you decide whether I mean at
Fulham or in the WC 😉

I thought Wilton did very well and it was well worth the 4.55am
alarm call [emoji12]
I thought he let the game flow really well, added to the
spectacle and only came in for sanctions when it was necessary.
All RC's were spot on for me, and a great DOGSO call in real
time without the need for VAR.
I felt for him during the annoucement though, as you could see
his brain in real time trying to find the words. He got the
clearest bit out though, so there shouldn't have been much
confusion that the final decision was RC for VC.

The more I think about the Mexico RC, the more I’m shocked so
many people dont agree with it. On the attached pic (when it
gets approved) that is the point of contact. If that contact
isn’t made, he’s through on goal with a one on one with the gk.
Defenders aren’t going to catch him, and then he has an attacker
to square it to…..remember the law tweak that attackers are now
part of the consideration for dogso, not just defenders

There was a case maybe 3/4 years ago now where a referee had
aced the fitness tests and LOTG tests they have but failed the
English test and therefore was denied his white badge, can't for
the life of me remember who it was now but they were Eastern
European, possibly one of our Hungarian refs!
