Sorry that third red card is not DOGSO. And football as a sport
doesn’t want that to be DOGSO regardless of what the technocrats
like Collina would perhaps want.

To be fair to him, if you’d made Anthony Taylor describe his
decision to billions of people in Portuguese to a
non-Portuguese-speaking stadium he’d have struggled too. You can
only practice so much before the pressure hits you first. I felt
for him (mainly cos it’s a harsh enough red as it is).
Didn’t expect the third red but I like it for the cynicism.
Where’s Toro Rendon when you need him?!

On a side note away from the red cards - way too much whistling
for my liking. Must of been new so wanted to try it out.

First DOGSO is easy, no real question about it. Second DOGSO I
don't really agree with, but equally I don't think it was wrong
enough for VAR to get involved.
I have an issue with the VC red card though. It's a possible
red, it is debatable, but I don't think VAR should be going
anywhere near that.

I don’t understand why he would be hoping VAR would bail him out
by going red? What would VAR be bailing him out of? If he wanted
bailing out of the red card……he just wouldn’t give the red card

Struggling to see the controversy of the 3rd red card. Taking
DOGSO considerations
Distance - 18 yard box, close to goal ✅
Covering defenders - none (in my opinion) ✅
Likelihood to regain control - quite likely, real chance the
attacker would shoot ✅
It doesn’t look like your crystal clear DOGSO offences but I
think there’s enough in the situation to go red and VAR
certainly isn’t intervening for that.
As for the 2nd red card, can VAR stop looking for opportunities
to intervene when you totally don’t need to?

That is very strange logic. If he was hoping VAR would bail him
out he would have either given no card or a yellow, not a red.
And I keep coming back to this but if a referee makes a mistake
that VAR then corrects they still get an incorrect key match
decision and a maximum mark of 7.9. I understand the argument
that this doesn't matter in the Premier League as referees are
protected by their contract, but it has a huge impact in
tournament football. Realistically if you get a 7.9 in a group
stage game there is pretty much no chance of recovering and you
won't be progressing to the next phase.
