With all due respect to Omar, if he wasn’t appointed, who would
be the top candidate?
Rumsas possibly? Nyberg, Eskas? Scharer? Possibly Makkelie?

As it could be said they did by appointing a referee to the
Champion's League final who hadn't been selected for the World
Cup.

I have a feeling this could be a dig at FIFA by UEFA, and I’m
all for it. FIFA treated Omar wrong, so what seems like the
entire footballing world, except the US Government and FIFA, are
sticking up for him! Football is more than a game sometimes.

Not the first time they've had a dig recently. When all the
furore kicked off about ticket prices at the WC, they
immediately announced prices would be capped at the next Euros
and more reasonably priced. It shouldn't take UEFA to be a moral
compass for FIFA but here we are!

Surely with such a major event, all participants’ status is
checked earlier than at the border? Particularly from certain
countries which are under more scrutiny security-wise. Just
naive to leave it to normal procedures. The list of officials
was known ages ago - even from a PR point of view, seems
ridiculous for a major organisation to not check these things
well in advance.
Like the IOC, with Blatter and all the previous dodginess ( is
it a word, is it allowed?), FIFA has become a shambolic circus.
With such a world reach, it has the potential to do great things
and have high standards, but greed and self-promotion take over
at every turn. Anything that makes a point to them is good in my
book. Easy win for UEFA from a PR point of view; The Super Cup
is high profile but not that important in the grand scheme of
things, and a great way to show support to the referee who, at
face value, was badly treated.
It’s being sold as part of cooperation between UEFA and CAF, so
wouldn’t bet against a UEFA referee (maybe whoever was pencilled
in for the Super Cup) getting an equivalent game in Africa
which, for any up-and-coming FIFA referee, would actually be a
very useful experience.

Marvellous stuff. Throughly warranted and well done to UEFA for
giving him this tie.
✌️ to Trump and his playmate at FIFA.

FIFA quite frankly isn’t fit for purpose today, and with the
people at the top in charge currently, it’s not going to
improve.
We now have Infantile, as he’s affectionately known as,
suggesting a 64 team World Cup.
He’s seriously living in cloud cuckoo land if that’s going to
work. They’d need two months to cram all those games in, and I
doubt they’ll be enough referees and assistants who will be
capable of officiating high profile matches under worldwide
scrutiny.
