It was Orsato in 2022, Turpin had the euro 2024 opener, which
funnily enough probably cost him the final.
I’m going for Oliver, but if it’s to be a South American
probably Wilton Sampaio

Oh my mistake, I had it as the other way around 🤦

Final referee with federation for the last few tournaments.
2022 - Szymon Marciniak (Poland - UEFA)
2018 - Néstor Pitana (Argentina - CONMEBOL)
2014 - Nicola Rizzoli (Italy - UEFA)
2010 - Howard Webb (England - UEFA)
2006 - Horacio Elizondo (Argentina - CONMEBOL)
2002 - Pierluigi Collina (Italy - UEFA)
1998 - Said Belqola (Morocco - CAF)

Without wanting to spoil the fun, of course it’s way too early
to predict. All are good shouts but if there’s a controversial
decision or VAR decision against USA we can expect a proper
banishment. Think Busacca in 2010.

History suggests the majority of games without European team
involvement get assigned to UEFA officials given the number of
UEFA vs Another matches in the World Cup that FIFA prefer to
avoid appointing UEFA officials to, so given it is CONMEBOL vs
CAF, I'd be surprised if it's not a UEFA official for the
opener. I'm going for either Oliver or Vincic.

Mexico are CONCACAF, not CONMEBOL, so it's plausible (and in
fact obviously confirmed) that it can be a CONMEBOL official.

Faghani should’ve had the 2018 final to be honest. I fear his
time has passed but he’s still always one of the best officials
at these events.
