K A FRIEND - The FA Cup Final

Good decision not to penalise Kompany for hands in the box. Not
so good was stopping play when playing a good advantage
initially after Deeney was felled.
Other than the booking for Dacoure for protesting, not too bad
from Friend.

I wasn't particularly impressed with Friend's appointment to the
final, but he has had a very good first half in my view.
Very low key generally, trying to let the game flow, with a
couple of very good advantages. He got the Watford penalty shout
spot on (and was in the perfect position to see it), and the
subsequent caution for Dacoure's dissent was fully warranted. I
loved his management of Holebas following his dissent to the
assistant over a throw-in, shortly after Dacoure's caution -
strong word with him and the captain, to make clear that it
wasn't acceptable, but sensibly avoiding an unnecessary caution.
Very impressive half, and fully justifying his appointment so
far, despite my initial reservations.

Thought it should have been a penalty for Watford. Exactly the
same as all of the other similar incidents where a penalty has
been awarded. Can’t have one pen for one and not the other!
Other than that no problems for friend.

Which incidents please? Cant remember any others today where
penalties were awarded?? Excellent and very consistent display
frommr friend today, just a shame the match was so poor.

PSG v M United
Tottenham v M City
Several games in Spain and Germany I’ve seen, do I need to go
on?

Thought he was very good although don't think a referee will
ever have an easier cup final!

Friend and co can be very satisfied with their days' work.
I don't think it was a penalty for the Kompany incident.
The advantage early on was a bit strange (it was a good
advantage but then he brought it back for a free-kick when
Watford still had the ball in a promising position and really
when too long had probably elapsed for him to take it back
anyway.)

I was there and thought he did well in an easy game. Thinking
about the advantage he pulled back, what would Watford want
there? Their best chance of scoring was set pieces, so do they
want an advantage where Delofeu isn't really going anywhere and
his strike partner is on the ground prone, or do they want the
chance to regroup and launch the ball into the penalty area to
try and take advantage of one of City's few weaknesses (i.e.
defending aerial balls)? Think I know what I would prefer
there.

I was there- thought he did well in an easy game. One thing
really liked in when the serial offender Holebas had a go
verbally at the AR he called captain Troy Deeney over and spoke
to the two of them to make it abundantly clear it was cards next
time. Very sensible and no histrionics, dramas or needless
cards.

That would be the decison where the AR was 5 yards away looking
directly at the play and failed to spot a clear Watford throw
in.
Just so we all know before next season starts for "handball
incidents" (subject to body silhouette) going forward how are
English (UEFA) referees and VAR officials planning on dealing
with these type of offences in the Premier League at the weekend
and then satisfying their UEFA masters in the following week's
European matches on a consistent basis? If they don't award
penalties in England then surely they won't be awarding
penalties in Europe.

I thought Friend did really well. Got the Komoany one spot on
and managed the Watford players well in the 1st half as they got
frustrated.
Good to see him speak to the captain.
Good to see some really good sprints and position when Man City
attacked and scored.
Re the advantage, yes he could have played on but as one has
said, the main striker was on the floor. Where’s the advantage?
Got caught in play once but we all do that.
Makes me chuckle when I read some say it was an easy game. Ok it
was 6-0 but the occasion is huge and a lot of pressure on the
match officials. Let’s give the refereeing team credit for
going in and delivering the game and no one talking about them.
Let’s praise them for once jeez.
Well done to all of them. A worthy appointment and did what they
needed to do to show why they got it.
