I thought this was a red card. Looks at the defender and then
smashes into him deliberately with a leading arm.

I agree but, that said, if in the opinion of the referee it was
reckless rather than violent (and he had a clear view of it), no
VAR is going to overturn it.

If you look at the player and then thrust your forearm into the
       face that’s violent not reckless

Could’ve been a range of things - feeling abit under the
weather, demotivated, loss of confidence, personal issues, but
he’s a tough cookie so it’s good to see him power through.

Just to add another variable to the mix: is the referee’s
whistle really the decisive moment in situations like this?
If I were refereeing an incident of this nature and decided I
needed to prevent the restart, there would inevitably be a brief
interval between making that decision and actually blowing the
whistle as I bring it to my mouth. In that context, if the
referee states that they recognised the issue before the ball
was back in play, that ought to be sufficient, regardless of any
forensic analysis comparing the exact moment the ball was kicked
with the precise instant the whistle sounded.
On a broader point, I have watched very little Premier League
football this season until the last few days, but the matches I
have seen this week have been badly affected by the amount of
time taken over corners and the level of grappling that goes on
before the ball is finally put back into play.
Two thoughts occur to me. Firstly, referees need to take a
firmer line on the wrestling before corners are taken. If a
referee feels the need to delay a corner in order to speak to
the offenders, then someone should be cautioned. That should
focus minds. Attempting to "manage" these situations is clearly
not working. Secondly, the new Laws intended to speed up
restarts apply to throw-ins and goal kicks, but not to corners.
That strikes me as an oversight. The less time players are
given to engage in this sort of behaviour, the quicker the game
can restart and the better the spectacle will be.
       [/quote]
Here's an easy one. Penalise any player who is facing in the
opposite direction to the corner as they have obviously got no
intent to try to play the ball.

So it appears Spence Spence has a fractured jam following the
the challenge by Delap,I know you shouldn’t judge the incident
       by the outcome but…..

I've only just caught up with this. Nothing should surprise me
any more I suppose, but I just can't understand why VAR didn't
intervene, no matter what Attwell told him. When I've seen
players sent off for a tap on the cheek or a little tug on the
hair, how can this incident not be seen as violent conduct. As
has been noted, Delap clearly looked at Spence before thrusting
his arm/elbow in the face with no little force. To my eyes, it
       was clearly a deliberate act.
And yes, Hackett is right on this one!
