Thats another problem... they have no clue how to deal with
discipline and are afraid to take on the big characters.
The best referees were big characters. Think of Collina, Webb,
Clattenburg, Marciniak, Turpin and more. Most of our refs are
weak and nervy and its a big problem. They need some serious
character building. They all come across well off the field
whenever they are interviewed. They need to transfer that
confidence to the field.

I can’t wait for next season for the grand total of 1 VAR
decision that goes our way when it comes in a moment where it
totally doesn’t matter…

Bell is normally a really safe pair of hands when it comes to
VAR. If anything, he’s probably top 3 at it in my opinion
That said, I’ve no idea what he saw (or didn’t see) here. The
comms would be very interesting.
It’ll also be interesting to see how they edit the ref cam for
this one. This is probably the first one they’ve done in which
something goes horribly wrong. I’d have put money of Tierney
being involved!

Why do the media insist on calling this an explanation?
The Premier League's Match Centre account issued an explanation
on the decision, posting on X: "The referee’s call of yellow
card to Havertz was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the
challenge deemed not to be serious foul play."
It's stating what was obvious and doesn't add anything; but the
conclusion by VAR is just as obviously wrong in the eyes of
many. I'm equally shocked that Tierney, despite appearing to
have a good view and angle, deemed it only reckless. Did he
perhaps tell VAR that he saw it clearly and was happy with just
a YC, perhaps making it more difficult for Bell to intervene?

I agree about Arteta. He started with the incident when Saka
kicked the floor and then wanted a penalty, he then continued
railing about every decision that Arsenal did or didn't get and
was jumping up and down about the added time, even though his
keeper had been injured and the treatment took almost 2 minutes
before play re-started with a free kick for the foul which took
place on the goal line, although the keeper took the free kick
12 yards away from the incident ---he didn't complain about that
though.

This logic that they've created of the on field referee being
sure they're right and therefore VAR wont intervene when in fact
they were wrong has tied them up in knots completely. All boils
down to being too scared to make a mistake again.

No time to take their foot off the pedal. 2 huge games tomorrow
night which I’m sure Howard Webb will be desperate for no
controversy.
Hoping Taylor can deliver an elite performance tomorrow night,
just like his UEFA status. As for the game at Stamford Bridge,
good luck to Attwell.

Dont worry.... we've only got footballs world spectacle in the
madhouse that is the USA to look forward to!
Oliver is being tipped by most on the other blogs to do the
opening game, his chances of that and his and Taylors chances of
progression in the tournament are going to be badly damaged by
PGMOL becoming a laughing stock across the world in the last few
weeks. One thing we know from past experience is that outside of
Italy, Collina does not like to appoint referees from
federations with bad reputations to important games.
