Oh dear… that really should have been a penalty to Newcastle for
handball by Soucek…
It was a clear movement of arm to ball and it’s been given as
natural position…
I’m baffled…

I don’t think Gillet has been bad for me he’s been ok, tried to
let the game flow and played advantages but West Ham have had
very little from him , also missed a clear YC to Trippier after
playing advantage in the 80th minute that’s poor for me and sums
up my sentiments on his performance today

I’d imagine that Gillett deemed that challenge SPA and not
reckless and as stated many times on here, to caution a player
for SPA after playing an advantage would be wrong in law.

It wasn't a penalty because of the nudge in the back of Soucek,
they deemed that caused the arm to come out.
He can't go back to caution Tripper unless he deemed it a
reckless challenge, it is not allowed to caution someone after
playing advantage for an SPA challenge, and for me it was much
more SPA than reckless.

There were 2 incidents discussed on RefWatch - the potential
handball offence by Soucek and the double kick by the same
player on a Newcastle player lying on the ground. DG & JB both
seemed to agree on no penalty for the handball but JB felt the
kick was violent conduct if I heard him correctly and should
have been a RC not just a yellow.
Personally, I thought both decisions were controversial and that
a penalty in the first incident and a RC in the second would
have been the better decisions; but I can probably understand
VAR not getting involved.
To me, Gillett looks like what is sometimes referred to as a
'natural' referee, but his form does appear to have dipped for
part of this season. I wish him well in the Championship
Play-Off Final.
