Hi to everyone as a newbie…although perhaps you can guess by my
username I am perhaps a useful new recruit having just retired!
So having just watched Charlotte(sky sport)discuss perhaps the
biggest decision in the history of VAR…I was disappointed at her
lack of empathy for Darren England regarding the length of time
it took…having recently retired I know the pitfalls of VAR and I
have seen the effect it has on active officials including
myself…I am happy if anyone wants to ask questions that perhaps
you haven’t been able to directly or indirectly.
I personally would have taken even longer to check,double check
and perhaps triple check something that to us seems obvious but
under pressure can seem perhaps debatable.
However
My thoughts were…Darren would have known the utter magnitude of
his decision…worldwide he would have perhaps had somewhere
around 1 billion people awaiting his decision…surely…a
pundit/player/perhaps anyone would have looked at him(as I
did)and just prayed for the sake of everyone that this was a
cast iron foul.
I have actually PM Charlotte(something I don’t do generally)to
ask her to have a chat with me away from the game as someone who
has been under that intense pressure..If ok I will let you know
if she responds.
Hoping this is a decent first post to open up some debate.
And hoping I can give a recent active perspective to other posts

A very warm welcome EXEFLAR.
This is a wonderful group and one and one I take great pleasure
in contributing.
I am no referee but just an old git who is a supporter but loves
football from top to bottom.
I do have a tenuous link into refereeing with a friend of mine
a recently retired SG2 ref from near to where i live and a work
colleague whose son is a current AR.
Looking forward to your contributions.
