Chris Kavanagh - West Ham vs Arsenal

He’s having a really good game here. Showing why he’s one of our
elite officials.
The only thing he has missed was a clear foul on Gyokeres by
Disasi but apart from that he’s been excellent. Cautions have
been spot on and he’s managing the game very well so far.

On his day, Kav is fantastic (as he has been so far here ). But
I think he has too many off days, which has likely held him
back.

That may or may not be a foul. But it’s not what VAR is for.
We want clear and obvious. Not maybe, let me watch it again
multiple times 🤦🏻‍♂️

Has “Ref’s call” gone out the window? It’s not a wrong outcome
but for me that could have gone either way and it looks like
England has gone looking for a reason to rule the goal out. The
length of time Kavanagh was at the screen suggests he wasn’t
100% convinced

There is no way VAR should be involved in that decision. It
didn’t even look like he grabbed the shirt of the keeper. There
were multiple clearer fouls in the same corner on West Ham
attackers. Odegaard has his man in a bear hug the entire time.
VAR with this and the Gabriel non red card have really helped
Arsenal over the line.

Also ironic given the amount of rubbish Arsenal get away with at
set pieces.

Listen, you can talk about length of time, clear and obvious and
all of that stuff.
But, that was a colossal moment. Perhaps the biggest moment of
the season. Darren England is well within his right to study
everything and take his time over the decision. As is Chris
Kavanagh while he is at the screen.
There’s no way on earth that Kavanagh could’ve seen the action
of Pablo on Raya which in my opinion, makes referees call
virtually irrelevant. I believe that it is a foul. It is not
side to side contact. The arm is across the chest clearly
impacting the goalkeepers ability to play the ball.
All I would say is you have to give credit to Darren England and
Chris Kavanagh (and Akil Howson in AVAR) because I think they
realised the magnitude of the moment and took their time to
ensure they came to the correct decision so well done to all the
officials in that moment.

It’s not even the length of time Kavanagh looked at it. It’s the
time England looked at it. If you don’t quickly get an idea that
some is wrong, it isn’t C&O.
I genuinely don’t think England is good enough for this level,
whether that be in the middle or VAR. But especially at VAR.
There are far superior officials behind him in the pecking
order.
