This is refreshing to see.
No slap on the wrist. About time proper punishments were handed
out.

Southampton removed from playoffs over “spygate” with
Middlesbrough reinstated; Southampton to receive a -4 points
deduction at the start of 2026/2027 season (subject to appeal)

I wonder if this effects the appointed match officials or
whether this was taken into consideration

The appointed officials won’t change. None support Middlesbrough
as far as I know.
Very fair punishment. Good to see something other than a fine
handed out.

May be an unpopular opinion but Tonda Eckert should be dismissed
from his job.
Embarrassing from Southampton.
Also concerning how they admitted the actions and are intending
to appeal it?

He’s done an absolute disservice to the board who backed him and
also the fan base. His position is simply untenable.
Half a season absolutely wasted and gone up in smoke because of
him and his fellow staff reckless decisions.

They would be appealing the sanction not the guilty verdict

I doubt their appeal will be anywhere close to successful. The
EFL will most definitely stand by the sanction as it sets the
standard for clubs that think they can go peeking into other
clubs training.
Sad thing is, out of the teams they spied on:
They lost 2-1 vs Oxford, who they spied on
They drew 2-2 vs Ipswich, who they spied on
They won 2-1 and drew 0-0 vs Boro, who they spied on
The staff behind this need to walk, and so does the manager.
They are a disgrace to their fans and the club, and I’m not even
a Southampton fan.
Upwards of 37k tickets will also need to be refunded, along with
any other costs. Will be very costly and will definitely turn
any clubs away from spying.
And with all of this, Middlesbrough will no doubt pull out a
certain celebration if they score in the final!

The least Southampton can do is offer a free season ticket
(funded by whoever was responsible for this) to everyone who had
one this season. The amount of money spent and miles travelled
all for nothing… wow

hi,
sensible decision [emoji4] i wonder if that will cause hull any
tactical issues re: different opponents than they were
originally expecting? [emoji15]
perhaps there's some 'intern analysis data' they could obtain
from somewhere [emoji3]

gnr

Some are saying on Socials that if they spied on a team in 23rd
at the time (all due respect to Oxford), it’s almost impossible
they spied on just the 3.
I guess unless any clubs come forward with CCTV evidence, we
will never know (unless they admit more)!
