Watching a documentary programme on the Leeds/Bradford Airport
(previously Yeadon but now known as the Yorkshire airport)
showed as its Chief Executive former League referee David Laws.
I certainly wouldn't have recognised him but he was introduced
as a former referee. I am not sure whether he was a former
police officer or was that his brother?

They both should have been really. It was a sad day for headline
writers when Billy Crook left Metropolitan Police FC after
       several years.

I recall seeing Gilbert Pullin referee Leyton Orient v Arsenal
what I think was the first match of the season after the O's had
been promoted. Just found a video clip it was 1962 and you can
see Gilbert quite clearly - also camera zoomed in on Billy
Wright who was in the crowd.
Can't recall there were any major problems but then referees
generally had an easier time from the fans and press than they
       do now

Not sure if appropriate to post in here, but talking of old refs
I met and spent the afternoon with Roger Gifford over the
       weekend.
I used to like watching him as a referee, though clearly the
first thought when he is mentioned is a certain challenge in the
91 Cup Final and yes we did speak about it

Roger Gifford or Roger Milford or were they both involved in the
1991 Final? Roger Gifford was another top ref with a beard but
greyish and not nearly as full as Trelford Mills or Roger
Dilkes. I too liked seeing him ref, a Palace victory over
Liverpool in a TV game being one of them. Largely unhurried but
always seemed to be up with play.

Must surely be Roger MILFORD. I don't think Rodger Gifford
played any part in the 1991 FA Cup Final did he?

I came across this picture recently and found it and the story
that went with it interesting. I thought that it might be one
for folk to try and identify.

Interesting. The left hand one of the referee's two badges looks
a bit like the RAF FA badge, which might fit with the location.
Appearance wise he looks a bit like John Martin (Alton, Hants)
but I don't recall him being in the RAF. Or could it be John
       Deakin, who definitely was?
