Nottm Forest vs Aston Villa - Joćo Pinheiro

Really enjoyed Joćo and his team's performance tonight.
He let an unprecedented amount go but the game was all the
better for it, and the players also really helped by getting on
with it as well, resulting in a great game to watch. He also
showed great man management and empathy - I felt the players
genuinely seemed to like him.
In real time I think the penalty is a real tricky one to give so
I don't blame him for not giving it on the field, but an
excellent intervention by VAR to send him over to the screen
(for once this week!)

Excellent game of football enhanced by a very good team referee
performance.
As said let a lot go, but kept in control and allowed the game
to breathe.
I can understand why the penalty wasnt given on field, firstly
as the AR on that side who was slightly behind play signalled
for a goal kick, however replays showed the ball didnt go out of
play and digne certainly had both arms above his head for some
unfathomable reason. Nailed on pen as per uefa interpretations,
correct to send pinnheiro to the screen.
I fully Expect a big hitter at Villa Park next week for the
second leg.
Ps for the subject its Nottm Forest and not Notts Forest.

Do you not think Anderson was lucky to be unpunished for his
tackle on Watkins?

At the time no one appealed, looked like a good, strong tackle.
On review, it was a foul. Definite YC, borderline RC. Whilst I
understand tackles should be dealt with on their merits, in the
context of the game no1 expected a RC so I think VAR did well to
stay out. Ref was bang in line with the tackle, which would not
give him an angle to see the first foot go over the ball and
make contact with the ankle
I thought the Portuguese ref judged his involvement well and
both sides responded. Whilst it was no PSGBMA it was a very
good, open game, enhanced by the officials. The goal kick
decision by AR2 prior to penalty was poor, was not in line and
guessed.
I don't feel the return needs a huge hitter - I think it would
be a good test for a newish elite (maybe too early for Walsh?
Guess it will be someone off the WC list otherwise)

Unai Emery was furious in his post-match interview, claiming
Watkins was close to breaking his ankle and it was a huge
mistake.
He also claimed the referee should give an explanation about it
because its crazy.
Safe to say he isnt the happiest man in the world right now!

Unfortunately its well within character from Emery of recent to
throw the toys out of the pram when villa lose. He is fast
becoming a sore loser on the outside, whereas before he used to
keep his emotions within.
Digne could easily have seen red too and Watkins was lucky not
to see yellow for a revenge foul on Anderson.
Me thinks he should be looking at his teams shortcomings rather
than blaming team ref.

To be fair to Emery if you read the comments from the press
conference, he praised the referee saying he was 10/10 (without
any degree of sarcasm), and also acknowledges that he didn't see
the danger of the tackle originally like the referee. His
problem is with VAR being able to look at the replays, and
especially in Europe I'm surprised a review wasn't recommended
as Dale Johnson explains with the tackle ticking a lot of, if
not all, the boxes for SFP.

One of my pet peeves: its actually neither; its Nottingham
Forest. Neither Forest nor anyone else has any claim to a
correct abbreviation of their name.

Notts is an abbreviation for Nottinghamshire the county, whereas
Nottm is an abbreviation for Nottingham the city.
