know, especially in Europe, there is no way they are going to
stick with their decision, would be potentially career ending if
they did.

If they have decided "no foul" (as shown in the little box on
screen) then surely it is an error.
Of course they didn't go back and look at the similar "foul" by
White on Lookman - but then he didn't throw himself to the floor
and stayed on his feet.

Do I think it was a penalty? No
Do I think it was C&O? No

And this is where whatever protocols are in place, or whatever
wording is used that we tie ourselves up in or try to justify
things with, must be wrong.
I happen to agree that I don't think it is a penalty.
At that point, for me, VAR absolutely MUST get involved. The
referee blew and gave a penalty. But it's not a penalty.
Therefore, it absolutely is a clear and obvious error.
I know loads of people won't agree, but I'm happy I'm tuppence
down. 😁
(Alternatively, let's just go back to a VAR free life... it's
made zero difference to referees being questioned, slated,
ridiculed, etc etc.)

Does anybody actually think it’s a penalty? Every comment
disagreeing with the VAR decision is saying it’s soft/not clear
and obvious, but if nobody thinks it’s a foul, surely it is
clear and obvious?

I’ve seen things given for similar put it that way.
The way I see it is that Eze gets to the ball first and pokes it
away from Hancko and then the defender steps on Eze’s foot. Is
the contact minimal? Yes of course it is.
But I don’t look at that incident and think it’s not a foul. I
think it’s a soft one but there’d be no arguments with that in
the middle of the pitch.
I just don’t think the incident warranted a VAR intervention
because it was not clearly and obviously wrong.

I think it is a soft penalty, but as the saying goes a soft
boiled egg is still a boiled egg. There's definitely contact,
whether that contact was enough to take Eze down is the
subjective element. But VAR should be going nowhere near
subjective decisions, that is the issue I have, it feels like
re-refereeing the game and not what VAR was brought in for. One
of those that if given by the referee should stay a penalty, if
not given should stay a non-penalty.

One can only assume that the var thought Eze initiated the
contact hence the reason for intervening, interestingly if i
remember wasnt the restart a drop ball to the keeper?which
suggests no foul either way. If they thought there was no foul
then its clear and obvious. Not saying whether i agree with them
or not just trying to understand their interpretation of things.

Makkelie won't have the final with 2 OFRS in a SF, regardless of
what I thought was a solid performance otherwise.
And then there were 2; Michael and Francois, each of whom could
be barred by their country's respective teams who remain.
Like the FA cup, it could very well be the year of the rogue. Id
say give it to Scharer, what can go wrong? Siebert though for me
seems the more likely candidate in a PSG v Arsenal situation,
given Zwayer has been rejected by the committee and seems set
for a rather drab and short World Cup.

Hi new poster here and an Arsenal fan here and I will try and be
as balanced as I possibly can, first Arsenal penalty is a
penalty, yes Atletico penalty in Europe is a penalty but in the
premier league that wouldn’t of been given so yes it it is
penalty, but regarding the handball law why isn’t everything
aligned surely, UEFA is the governing body of European football
so surely thy over see all the laws and surely every
confederation should be following there rules, that’s what I
think anyway, regarding the overturned penalty yes I agree it is
soft, but if you are looking at it 13 times then surely it isn’t
clear and obvious, and also this could be a controversial take,
since when has managers been allowed to basically make the
referees decision for him, as that’s what I feel Simoene did
last night for there penalty and for the overturned one, I feel
he had an influence in both decisions

I think the two given penalties were soft - for the first the
striker is already on his way down and throws out his backside
to ensure contact, but it wasn't going to be overturned. The
handball looks like there was a deflection but in Europe those
get given.
However, the Eze one was the correct decision IMO. There is no
proof that the defender actually touched Eze's right foot, it
looks like there is no contact there, and Eze then flings out
his left leg to catch the defender. I don't think it's a foul
whatsoever and the review was correct.
