       hi,
not much for the ref to do in the first 45 minutes except to
point to the penalty spot [emoji4]
impressive quantities of toilet paper thrown onto the pitch at
the start, and extremely impressive clearing up job by the
ground staff in double quick time [emoji15]
       regards,
       gnr

2 on field reviews for Makkelie - correct outcome reach on both
occasions imo - will that rule him out of final contention?

I’m not certain the third penalty incident is a clear and
obvious error. That’s what I call re-refereeing the game.
Simeone getting away with everything on the touch line.

No idea why VAR got involved In the 2nd Arsenal penalty not
clear and obvious at all, at the same time why didn't Makkellie
have the courage to stick to his decison.

Eze kicks the back of the leg of the defender, that’s the
biggest clue that it’s not a foul. Correct intervention for me

That was his trailing leg that kicked the back of the Athletico
player the Athletico player caught Eze first albeit there wasn’t
       much contact

Terrible VAR decisions in the end. Really don't agree with the
Atletico handball decision, but that's more of an issue with
UEFA's ridiculous interpretation of the handball law, so don't
really blame Makkelie. But the overturned Arsenal penalty is
shocking. Clear contact on Eze (ignore the trailing leg which is
irrelevant), and absolutely no justification for the VAR to
recommend a review, and even when that is suggested, Makkelie
has to be stronger than he was for most of that second half in
the face of constant harrassment and harranging from both
Atletico players and manager and stick with his decision. Can't
see how UEFA would want that decision reviewed so suspect that's
       it for Makkelie this season.
Having watched Makkelie many times, thought it was a very out of
character performance as he showed no willingness to deal with
the Atletico antics, constantly letting himself get surrounded
by players, even when he was trying to communicate with his VAR.

A quite unimpressive performance compared to what we saw last
night. That should rule him out of the rest of the competition.
VAR should be steering well clear of the Eze penalty - I can not
see how it’s an obviously wrong decision at all.

VAR has chucked the referee under the bus there, the penalty was
perhaps soft but there's no way it was a clear and obvious
error. Can't blame the referee, once sent to the screen we
know, especially in Europe, there is no way they are going to
stick with their decision, would be potentially career ending if
       they did.

       hi,
2nd half was refereed by the crowd and re-refereed by simeone
[emoji53] technical area boundaries were non-existent for both
managers, neither of which were cautioned [emoji15]
