Sandro Scharer - PSG vs Bayern Munich
   DIR By: BrandonWhitesRef21

I thought Sandro Scharer was good tonight at the Parc des
       Princes.
There will be talk about the penalty he gave the way of PSG but
everyone knows how messy the directives surrounding handball
       are.
Hopefully this is something that UEFA will address in the off
       season.
Aside from this, his game management was good and I thought for
a game of such magnitude - he did well.
Interested to read other opinions on this.

I thought he did really well. Strong, even handed, focused.
Could not have been easy bedding in as a new team but he led
them well. Hopefully he will get a game at the WC
In other news Harry Kane looks in good form - was able to roll
in both directions when "poleaxed" and his penalty taking was
exemplary- all bodes well for WC

I obviously didn’t watch as I had the Ipswich game on but have
       seen the highlights.
UEFA rules unfortunately mean the handball is a penalty. It
wouldn’t get given in the prem (and rightly so). It’s a bit
disappointing that is the only moment separating the two sides.
I actually rate Scharer quite highly. He’s always quite good
when I watch him. He also seemingly has a habit of 5-4s in
Europe because I remember he was the referee when Man Utd beat
Lyon 5-4 in that remarkable game at Old Trafford. And he’s now
been involved in another amazing game this evening.

       I completely agree with this.
Might be a shout for one of the finals outside of the UCL -
either the Europa League or Conference League.
I look forward to seeing him at the tournament. [emoji3]

From the one replay I saw:
The handball is a moot point because the defender originally had
his arms behind his back and then he moved one of them to his
side (in effect changing his body shape) as the ball was played
and he blocked the ball with that arm. Had he not moved his arm
the ball wouldn't have hit it.
Had his arms been by his side before the ball was played then it
would be argued that he hadn't changed his body shape.

I will again be in the minority , by UEFA /FIFA directives it’s
a penalty but his arms were not outstretched to handball it
deliberately , infact the ball bounced off his midriff first
then hit his hand which is why I feel it was very harsh . But as
said team ref had a good game , his communication of decisions
is exemplary I like the way when he turned round after looking
at the monitor for the PSG penalty he was going to get dissent
and be surrounded by Bayern players and reached to his top
pocket threatening to produce a card and they soon had other
       ideas

I seem to have read somewhere that Scharer was only being used
as a 4th official at the W C which, if it is correct, is sad
because he was very good last night. Maybe a Euro semi was a
sweetener to compensate for the disappointment

Yeah he is one of the refs on the list that only has 1 assistant
listed which suggests he will only be FO. Quite a few other refs
on the list are the same although Scharer is the only UEFA ref
that seems to be FO only.
