Cambridge penalty - it looked soft but I watched the highlights
last night and the decision was correct. Memo to Neil - unless
my recall of the laws is not up to date, Neil was wrong to
instruct a Cambridge player to stand behind the ball at the
taking of the penalty (he was on the pitch and outside of the
penalty area on Neil's side but in front of the ball and behind
Neil). OK, the player would have been offside if the ball had
rebounded to him, but I'm sure he was not wrong in law standing
in front of the ball, but I'll stand corrected on that one.

It has been in the laws for as long as I can remember that all
players must be behind the penalty mark at a penalty.

I’m away for the long weekend so a little behind on final day
action, but looks to me like one of the less dramatic final
day’s compared to previous years. The exception to that being
Stevenage’s goal, which definitely looks less clear than the
York incident but we’ll never know for sure. A brave call by
Ashley Allen. I imagine the calls for GLT might increase with 2
very tight and season changing decisions in the space of a week.
I also agree with other posters that it’s a baffling decision to
not award Salford a penalty, which of course would have changed
the automatic spots if scored.
Very happy to see Colchester end the season with a resounding
win and I don’t think Tom Reeves had too much to worry himself
with - as mentioned, I think he’s nailed on for a playoff game
of some description.
For most of the last 15 years, Colchester have either been
fighting at the top or bottom but a rather uneventful season
this year. I look forward to playing the likes of Crewe, Swindon
and Walsall for what feels like the 1000th year in a row!
Hopefully we’ll be back towards the top end next season under
new ownership!
Thanks to all contributors for another interesting year of
reports - as i’ve alluded to previously, I find this board very
useful and insightful when we rarely see the same referee more
than twice a season.
I’m sure i’ll dip in and out of the playoffs, but best of luck
for those competing and i’ll see you all back here in August
when we do it all over again!

i thought Neil Hair had a golden opportunity in the first 5
minutes to assert his authority by cautioning the Cambridge
defender for completely taking the Crewe player out with a
reckless challenge near the touch line he had no intention of
playing the ball. I would agree that he was in consistent in
his decision making. but looking at the penalty kick decision he
was well placed to make his decision i and was correct after i
watched the incident on TV to award it.
I thought overall his performance was average, and as was said
not the worst referee seen at Crewe this season, but will have
to improve a lot if he wishes to go higher to the next level.

No, "temporarily suspended" would have been better terminology
than banned. I still never understood what I did or why it
happened, and never received explanation. So now I just don't
RateTheRef in reviews at all.
