Glad you qualified that, because my team found it really easy to
get out of the National League .... and then the National League
South and .... - this season - they had a real good try at
getting out of the Isthmian Premier, failing only yesterday
(thank goodness!).

The most confidence inspiring official I've seen this season in
the NL has been Mr Hair
However I may be inclined toward someone who has graduated from
doing primarily NL games to a reasonable status in the EFL

Neil Hair has done some very good games since his return from
injury, he would fill the role well

Those in charge of the game seem happier to meddle with things
that aren't broken - like giving 7th/8th in the Championship a
play-off place - rather than do something that would help the
sport. Fully agree that it should be a three up/three down - our
resident Tranmere reporter might be relieved it isn't, as things
stand.
In terms of the referee, you can see the merits of appointing a
SG2 official, but think it could go to one of the leading NL
referees. Not sure on where some of them are based but Elliot
Bell, Ben Speedie, Tom Reeves and Martin Coy have all either had
Championship outings or a cup final, so would be my guess.
Also, is it a game where you appoint a referee that allows it to
breathe and allow for a bit of the occasion or choose a strict
disciplinarian, like a Breakspear?

Think I might be the person mentioned? In specifics Tranmere
have lost their last 6 home games and taken just 8 points in
2026, so I think it's highly likely that I'll be viewing things
from a NL perspective from next season.
On the promotion/relegation situation, think there needs to be
similar financial rules in play for the FL/NL before the number
of places increase and that means the NL coming into line with
the FL. Once this happens there can be no argument against it in
my view.
As for who takes charge of this automatic decider, I'd agree
that a proven NL official would be fine.

To be honest, they can appoint Jimmy Tarbuck to this winner
takes all game (one for the kids, there), as long as they do a
good job, don't influence the result and the home team win!

Given the SG1 injury crisis, I’m certain that a lot of SG2 will
be filling some of the holes, whether it’s holding the boards or
in regards to a couple of others, VAR duties. So I’m not certain
a SG2 will get this game.
A trusted National List official and my vote goes to Martin Coy.
