Rochdale vs York - Winner takes all.

Who do people think will get appointed as referee for this
match. Cant think of many normal season games in recent seasons
with such high stakes, a whole season boils down to one winner
takes all game, effectively a playoff final. Also seems to have
attracted a lot of the wider football community attention for a
National League game. Would SG2 be overappointing? My guess
would be Toner or E Bell

Would love to see an SG2 like one of the smiths or even Webb.
Somebody like Kirk would be equally deserving

Not sure about the referee, but it seems incredible to me that
two teams should get in excess of 100 points and one of them may
not be promoted. I seem to recall that the same thing happened
to York last season. No wonder they say the NL is one of the
most difficult leagues to get out of, at least at the top.

Those in charge of the game seem happier to meddle with things
that aren't broken - like giving 7th/8th in the Championship a
play-off place - rather than do something that would help the
sport. Fully agree that it should be a three up/three down - our
resident Tranmere reporter might be relieved it isn't, as things
stand.
In terms of the referee, you can see the merits of appointing a
SG2 official, but think it could go to one of the leading NL
referees. Not sure on where some of them are based but Elliot
Bell, Ben Speedie, Tom Reeves and Martin Coy have all either had
Championship outings or a cup final, so would be my guess.
Also, is it a game where you appoint a referee that allows it to
breathe and allow for a bit of the occasion or choose a strict
disciplinarian, like a Breakspear?

Elliot is from Liverpool, and Ben lives in and around Liverpool,
but hails from
Newcastle. I think Tom is from midlands way, maybe Coventry. So
those 3 would certainly be eligible. No idea on Martin Coy

I know you don't mean Breakspear literally, but given we've had
him twice since 7th Feb, it is highly unlikely to be him.

It will most definitely be either an SG2 or one on the verge of
SG2 or doing very well this season.
Speedie, Finnie, Reeves are all up there for me. Someone like E
Bell, Webb, Kirk would also be up there.

Wrexham vs Notts County a couple of years ago was a game that on
here almost everyone expected an SG2 name. However, it was
non-league Scott Tallis who was given the game and refereed it
superbly and subsequently earned a promotion to the old Nationa
group. So I wouldn't be surprised if that happens again.

That was a bit different as it was pre merger, so there wasn’t
really any precedence for it to be other than a high performance
L2a.
For this one someone like Tom Reeves would be a good shout, did
an excellent job on Cardiff v Lincoln recently.
Be surprised if it went SG2…that too would be fairly
unprecedented.
