Farai Hallam - Portsmouth v Ipswich

Excellent so far. He just looks the part and makes it look very
easy. Not much to say about the away side at the moment.
Continued in that fashion. A very good example of how to deal
with a little confrontation at the end too. All done with the
minimal of fuss. A phrase that can be used to describe his whole
performance. Can see why he’s at the front of the queue to SG1.

Pretty much as per his previous two Ipswich matches this season.
He is clearly a class above at this level.
At the third time of asking I finally made it to Fratton Park
this season. As it turned out it really wasn’t worth the effort
but Portsmouth were clearly the deserved winners and their
       supporters backed them magnificently.

I believe Farai is from Surrey (correct me if I'm wrong). If he
is, will he break the 'duck' of having no FA Cup Final referees
from the County (and only one League Cup Final ref, Ray Lewis
from Great Bookham)? I am sure he will, assuming that Gavin Ward
or Charles Breakspear don't beat him to it!

John Homewood, a very well respected FIFA referee was from
Surrey and he ranks as one of those somewhat unluckily to have
just missed out on the honour of refereeing the FA Cup Final.
Ray Lewis, who did get the league Cup Final, was similarly
       unlucky.

I wonder if his stellar rise to the top is partly as a result of
       being a professional ex footballer.
He’ll have more footballing acumen in terms of challenges, and
phases of play than possibly some of our elite cohort.
As we all remember, he told two FIFA officials at Shockley Park
to foxtrot Oscar when he was sent to the screen at the Etihad.

I was watching one of his very good performances on television
recently. I had assumed that Hallam was pronounced as in
'Sheffield and Hallam' but the commentator pronounced it with
the emphasis on the second syllable and a long second a, as in
the word alarm with an H in front of it. I presume she had done
her research and so that is the correct pronunciation. Does
anybody, who perhaps is acquainted with Mr Hallam, know for sure
       ?

He started his youth career at Stevenage and refereed in the
Spartan South Midlands League at step 5 so that would suggest
more Hertfordshire than Surrey, doesn't mean he was born there
though obviously and could have moved for the Stevenage chance.

I couldn't comment on where he grew up, but he does represent
Surrey FA. He trains at the University of Surrey in Guildford
       with their sports scientists.

He wears the Surrey FA badge in the cup.
I wonder when he’ll get the three lions badge?
