Martin Coy, EFL Trophy Final, Luton v Stockport

I have just caught up with the highlights of this Final. Martin
seemed to have a good game. However, there was one glaring
inconsistency which, fortunately, did not ultimately affect the
result. It came in the first half when a Luton player was barged
over in the Stockport penalty area and Martin waved away appeals
for a penalty. I have to say I thought he was wrong. Then, less
than a minute later, a Stockport player was similarly barged
over but just outside the Luton pen area, and the free kick was
given. For the life of me, I could not see any difference betwen
the two. That apart, Martin seemed fine and showed all his
experience in keeping the game moving. I hope he enjoyed his day
out at Wembley and will rememeber it for all the right reasons.

From they way you've described it, it seems the only difference
was genuinely that one was inside the area and one wasn't - and
the challenge was not quite enough for the 'higher bar /
threshold' for penalty decisions. Rightly or wrongly, that's
what's taught, so Mr Coy is following instructions from his
       higher ups.
