R JONES - Sunderland v Spurs

Good VAR intervention to remove the penalty award. Lots of legs
and bodies in the way and I can see why Rob gave it, as he
clearly couldn’t see the ball being won with 6 legs in close
proximity.
Although I think he had to be prompted to do the announcement
afterwards as he signalled no penalty and a drop ball before the
stadium announcement.

Not seen it yet- was the "penalty" given before the ball went
out of play?

Yes, the ball was well in play when the incident occurred.

Brobbey very lucky to get away without a caution there, clearly
a reckless push to cause the collision in my view.

Only watched second half but he’s been very poor imo.

One of the worst Premier League performances from a referee in a
good while. Up there with Kavs FA CUP disaster this season. Foul
detection was all over the place, gave soft fouls and missed
stonewall yellow cards, and was constantly shown to be shouting
"go away" at players which even though its often tempting is
very poor raport.

It was a standard performance for Jones really with poor foul
detection and inconsistent use of cards. Total contrast to
Taylor last night who makes it look easy

Watched the whole game on Sky, and honestly thought Jones was
extremely poor throughout. In real time, the challenge leading
to the penalty, never at any point looked like a foul. I was
amazed when it was given and said straight away to my son it
would be overturned, even before the benefit of any replays.
Shocking on field decision.
The rest of the game was a mishmash of actual fouls not being
given, whilst very soft almost non contact challenges were being
penalised. A typical Jones performance in a nutshell.
Refereeing at the top level is a tough gig, don’t get me wrong,
but Jones, along with Tierney, are the two I believe to be
extremely fortunate to be plying their trade at this level.

Another poster nailed it in an earlier comment. Usual
performance from Jones: awful foul detection, general haphazard
style, inconsistent cautions, and poor game management. Awful
decision for penalty, on another day Brobbey is sent off for 2
yellows, possible DOGSO in second half as well also missed.
How he got to the FIFA list is completely baffling. IMO one of
the weakest SG1 referees

I think he often comes across flustered & his inconsistent foul
recognition means the players are often on his back too. Not his
best season that's for certain, though on his day he is great
(they all are, that's why they're where they are).
