Anthony Backhouse - Norwich vs Ipswich

Good decision from AR1 Hodskinson to give the penalty. Can
completely understand why Backhouse didn’t originally give it
because he was obstructed.
Looked awful on the TV and praises to Hodskinson.

I don’t agree with that myself - no problem with Backhouse and
Hodgskinson talking about it and the delayed decision but
Taylor’s decided he’s been fouled and is halfway to the ground
before any contact takes place. The contact that does happen is
minimal - I wouldn’t want to see a penalty awarded for that.

Less certain on the penalty incident - contact was very minimal
and I agree with elbee that Jack Taylor was seemingly on his way
down already. I wouldn’t be best pleased if that was awarded to
Norwich.
Really tough game to officiate. Lots of niggly fouls which has
meant the game has been of a stop start nature. 5 yellows I
think it that half - on first viewing I felt some were harsh but
on replay there were a couple he had no choice with. I don’t
think Anthony has really missed anything but I don’t think the
controversy will end after this half. Needs to keep at it
otherwise it could go beyond his control.
But overall, I think he’s done a good job however there are
question marks on the penalty incident for me.

I don’t think Anthony’s having his best game here, I agree that
at least 2 yellow cards were soft for a game without the tension
of this one. But a lot of that is caused by the conduct of the
players, lots of shirt pulls and fouls without any intention to
play the ball, making it a tough watch as a neutral, between 2
sides with some fantastic footballers playing for them.

Think he’s done really well as it’s heated up even further but
that has to be a second yellow for Davis, either for deliberate
handball or kicking the ball away. I’ll be dumbstruck if this
finishes 11 vs 11.

Incredibly poor penalty decision meant unfortunately he lost
control, with the players clearly not helping. Failure to send
off Nunes compelling a poor day at the office.

I simply cannot believe Marcelino Nunez has not been sent off
for 2YC. That is unfathomable.

And Nunez now too, I think he’s getting hooked as I type. He set
a low bar for yellow card offences and then hasn’t followed
through. Really disappointing

For a number of years, there has not been a SG1 Ref on this
fixture. Unlikely to be a game next year, but I suspect they’re
maybe one on the next game after that performance from Mr
Backhouse. Two KMIs in favour of the away team which were wrong.

I suppose it would be best to let the dust settle, but that was
a shocking performance.
Even before the kick off he allowed Ipswich to have their huddle
on the Norwich side!
From the 6th minute when he didn't show a yellow to Ipswich 33
for waving an imaginary yellow, to then booking him after 13
mins after his 2nd kicking the ball away. His game just got
worse.
He didn't see/give the penalty and there is enough doubt for the
AR not to step in from 25 yards away.
Not to send Nunez off is truly stunning in the context of what
he was giving.
From booking Cordoba for handball when he was pushed on to the
ball, to not booking Davis 5 mins later for exactly the same
thing when he was already on a yellow!
Ipswich may not want Busby back at their ground, Backhouse will
not be coming back to Norwich anytime soon.
