'Support Referees', i.e. likely to only act as 4Os are
apparently Ming (CHN), Araki (JPN), Turais (KSA), Al-Ali (UAE),
Artan (SOM), Tom (RSA), Calderon (CRC), Nation (JAM), Garcia
(MEX), Herrera (ARG), Claus (BRA), Rojas (COL), Ortega (PER),
Kawana-Waugh (NZL), Scharer (SUI).
So 37 referees and 15 support referees. If past history is
anything to go by, some of these may actually end up getting a
game, possibly dead rubbers later on for experience.

Hernandez probably the most surprising given that he is the
least experienced Spanish Elite and seemed to be Spanish no. 3
until recently. Clearly Gil Manzano and Sanchez Martinez aren't
in favour.

F.A. site
Seven match officials from English football have been selected
for involvement at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor will serve as match referees
for the tournament. Oliver will be supported by assistant
referees Stuart Burt and James Mainwaring, while Taylor will be
accompanied by Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn. In addition, Jarred
Gillett has been appointed to operate in a Video Assistant
Referee (VAR) role.
For James, this will represent his first FIFA World Cup
appearance. Having been added to the FIFA List in 2024, he has
progressed rapidly through the international pathway to earn
selection for the tournament.
Jarred will also be making his World Cup debut, although he
already brings significant experience at international level. He
has previously served in VAR roles at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025
and earlier this year at the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, where he
was appointed assistant VAR for the final.
For Michael, Anthony, Stuart, Gary and Adam, this summer’s
tournament will mark their second FIFA World Cup, underlining
their continued standing among the world’s leading match
officials.
World Cup selection represents the highest level of officiating
and reflects sustained excellence across domestic and
international competitions. Having multiple officials, including
two full officiating teams, appointed to this summer’s
tournament is a significant achievement for English football.

Great to see Drew Fischer (Canada) on the list, 3 years MLS
referee of the year.
Mark my words as fifa is very political the final is only
between Faghani (Australia) and Efath (USA) for me it’s only
there’s to lose. I personally am backing Faghani 100% without
doubt one of the only natural referees + the oldest so for me I
have the utmost respect for him.
Also I expect Barton (El Salvador) to go far too.
Hernandez Hernandez (Spain) has come out of no where having
basically not been involved in the process until the last 6
months of hike everyone else been on the 4 year cycle.
I rate Hernandez Hernandez but it’s so weird as Manzano has
fallen from grace and Sanchez has been dropped at the finish
line.

Good luck to all! UEFA has a very strong list which should see
some good appointments and performances.
As usual, politics has played a huge part, as shown by the
determination to have someone Spanish, just as a reserve, even
if it means bucking the whole system.
Faghani should’ve had the final in 2018, when I think he had
five games and was in excellent form. He and Cakir were
overlooked? I feel he’s past his best - quite erratic in some
games - but still seems well liked.
Some I just don’t get why they’re seen as suitable. Ramos (Mex)
seems to lose control of every game I’ve seen at tournaments,
yet seems a sure bet every time.
USA is interesting - Elfath is talked up as a final candidate
but seems quite overrated to me and wasn’t impressed in last
tournament, but seems well liked by fifa. Penso is definitely
being pushed, but will she be given any actual tough games?
OFC will be really disappointed to only have one reserve slot in
a bigger list. Seems very unfair and demotivating. Surely a good
NZ ref is as experienced as some others from smaller football
nations? Don’t know enough about the NZ chosen, but if not, fifa
need to support something to help.

I don’t want to come across as negative on the case of any of
the officials but I’m
Just curious , obviously we don’t know the extent of Adam Nunn’s
injury but if it was to rule him out of the WC who would likely
replace him ? A reserve AR on the WC list by FIFA or would he
and his team stay at home ?
I hope they all go as planned as they are fully deserving of
their places at the tournament

I think Simon Bennett or Dan Cook would be the likely English
replacements if he was to unfortunately pull out.

Dan Cook is with Team Taylor in Europe this week, would assume
that is a nod in case. Would hope there is enough time for Nunn
to recover before the start of the tournament, injury dependent.

There will be no need for any change to the team [emoji106]

Willy Delajoid (FRA) has been added as a VMO for the World Cup.
He replaces Rob Dieperink.
