Congratulations to all the officials appointed who are going to
the World Cup.
Thoroughly deserved for Michael Oliver, Anthony Taylor and
Jarred Gillett and I’m personally delighted for all of them and
the AR’s Stuart Burt, James Mainwaring, Gary Beswick and Adam
Nunn. All of them have been fantastic this premier league season
and I hope they get trusted with some important fixtures because
they all deserve it. Well done to all.

I think it depends on who goes further in UEFA competitions.
Whichever one goes further in one, the other will go further in
the other.
They both deserve to go far in both and I do think both will get
significant appointments in the World Cup, but it looks as if
Oliver is being pushed hard in the UCL, so I would put money on
Taylor going far in the WC.
Of course this logic might be a bunch of waffle and of course
I’d like to see both go far in everything, but this is just my
viewpoint.
Also sending my praises to Tori Penso! She has been excelling
the last few years and it is great to see her on the big stage!

From the UEFA list it seems Scharer will only act as Fourth
Official as only 1 Swiss AR listed. Other will also be FO only
from other federations. Peljto and Sanchez miss out from final
UEFA seminar. Siebert wasn't even at that seminar so he is
another one not going. Hernandez going seemed incredibly
unlikely until recently but he has clearly done ok in his
appointments and Manzano/Sanchez have struggled.

If there's 52 referees, why is there not 104 assistants? i.e. 2
AR's for every referee working as a team?

The referees without 2 AR’s will likely be used as Fourth
Officials most of the time.

Politics determines that the latter stages have referees not
appointed strictly on merit but on a sort of Buggins turn for
each of the Federations. Therefore I think it very unlikely that
both Oliver and Taylor will appear in the Quarters, Semis and
Final but I'm sure one of them will. Which one though I think is
impossible to predict at this stage.
