Lots of Pompey fans have been going crazy at Josh Smith’s
decision to dismiss Ogilvie for SFP for a challenge on Mills.
I saw there was an instagram poll on this on the official Sky
Sports Football account which was 50/50 red or yellow.
In my opinion, I thought this was an excellent, brave and
correct decision by Josh Smith. The tackle itself is a very late
lunge with quite a lot of force and the challenge seems to be of
a scissor nature which is why I think Josh went for a RC.
Definitely some input by the near side assistant I think as
there was quite a delay in producing the red. But for me,
       correct decision.
There was another incident later on when Oxford’s Spencer
challenged Devlin while he was running down the right wing. I
think most Pompey fans were expecting a second yellow card for
SPA but no card was produced. I’m really torn on this one
because the attacker very clearly knocks the ball across the
defender and manufactures the contact with the defender. But at
the same time it is probably still a foul and I don’t think the
Oxford defender could have had many complaints if a second
       yellow was awarded.
Generally I thought Josh had a decent game in what was a really
difficult atmosphere to officiate in (because of his correct SFP
decision). Never swayed by the volatile crowd and got a lot of
       things right.

Disgusted to hear bottle(s) were thrown in the direction of Josh
       during yesterday’s game.
Would love to see their reaction if they had bottles thrown at
them whilst they were working at their desk or in an office..

Tried to post on this yesterday, but the site has been playing
       up.
I thought it was very harsh, personally. I'd not be happy at all
if that was given against an AFCB player; in my view it was
       reckless at worst.
The player also gets a 3 game ban. I know that is the rules, but
a marginal SFP call incurring a 3 game ban (when a deliberate
"Roy Keane on Haaland" or the sort of challenge made by Ryan
Lowe on Tommy Elphick a few years ago kind of situation often
gets the same ban) is in my opinion, often disproportionate.

Think this strongly sits in the ‘orange’ card category. I can’t
see VAR intervening either way if VAR was in use. One piece of
advice that I was given by a current SG1 referee, was that if
       you see orange, go red.
Although, I don’t actually think it’s the referee that decides
red. I think it’s the AR. If you listen to the referees whistle
tone and look at his body language, I don’t think he immediately
       thinks red.
