Robert Madley - West Brom vs Wrexham

I’d just like to give my own personal applause to Mr Madley for
correctly punishing a holding offence by a Wrexham player from a
       corner with a penalty kick.
He has clearly not been watching much premier league football
during his absence as surely he would have realised most holding
       offences don’t get punished ever.
We need more referees to do what Bobby Madley has done today and
then we might finally see a reduction of holding offences.

Needless to say, Manchester United having set an example, Kevin
Friend will be getting a letter of complaint from Wrexham!
       Wrexham's manager is not happy.
Having not seen the match, I cannot comment on the incident and
others missed or not given but holding is a very difficult
decision to make. Who started it, are both doing it, is it
material and so forth. "If he gives that then he should be
giving more penalties" "It goes on all the time". But if you
don't do it, you won't leave yourself liable to sanction and if
every referee did it, you would drive it down.
I hope Bobby Madley is correct (and I have no question to doubt
him) and more power to his arm - or whistle.

I have seen the incident correct decision and Wrexham would be
better off spending the time writing the letter working on
       defending set pieces

Incident is 49 seconds in on the below link. Brilliant decision
from Madley. There’s actually an image of them before the corner
is taken, and the defender is all over the attacker, even then

       "Dear Mr Friend
Please could you explain to me why your referee had the temerity
to give a penalty kick against us when all my player has done is
not look at the ball, wrap their arms around a player, fall onto
their legs when it was apparent they couldn't get to the ball?
How is that a penalty? I look forward to your detailed reply
       Yours sporting
       Parkinson (Wrexham)"

I wonder how many clubs have written to Mr Friend (and his EPL
counterpart) to thank them for the referee giving a decision in
       their favour?
It is in our nature to complain when it does not go our way, but
for every "victim" of an alleged poor decision, there is a
beneficiary. Wrexham (to use this week's example) will have
been beneficiaries of "poor decisons"; but they do not complain
that these should be overturned or rejoice in their good
       fortune.
Also the "if that is a penalty, there there will be six
penalties in every game" argument does not wash. If you get
pinged for speeding, citing examples of other speeding drivers
does not get you off the hook (or the fine + points). If you
take the risk, do not complain if you are sanctioned.

I agree that a penalty is the correct call from Mr Madley here.
Would be interested to know how much holding and grappling he
tolerated outside the penalty area though.

Key thing for me in the commentary was "there has been plenty of
       warning from Bobby Madley previously"
       Seen, identified, warned, continued, punished
Let's hope this is a trend we see held by all referees
