ECB National Umpire Panels 2026

To appraise you of the appointees for the Professional Umpires
Panel and the National Panel for 2026 -
Appointed to the Professional Umpire Team
Sam Hollingshead
Gareth Cross (ex-Lancashire)
Gabi Brown
Mohammed Waseem
Retiring are Peter Hartley, Neil Mallender, Neil Bainton and Rob
Bailey
Appointed to the ECB National Panel (County 2nd XI, National
Counties and latter stages of club competitions)
Aaron Page
Todd Holland
Aviral Gupta
Mark Greaves
Peter Epton
Alan Bindley
Nigel Stock
Kylie White
Kelly Alcock
I’m especially pleased for Todd Holland (Essex) as I’ve known
him for 20 years and is a quality official who deserves his
chance to progress to a higher level.
Be interesting to see how all these get on.

Very sad indeed to see him and his colleagues depart, i was
aware that three of the four were thinking of retiring a few
years back. I Think all the travelling and quick turnarounds in
the short formats has brought their departures forward.

As far as I’m aware, Peter Hartley has reached retirement age,
Neil Mallender was seriously unwell the season before last so
stepped away from first team matches last year.
Neil Bainton is the Professional Umpires Team Manager with
overall control of appointments and development.
Rob Bailey has stepped down and has taken a role as an umpire
developer/coach for the PUT.

Has the retirement age increased to 66?
I know a couple of years back quite a few umpires reaching their
twilight years were not happy with the travelling during white
ball games and seriously thought about
Departing the scene early. I think the ecb then kept them in the
area they live in for t20 games ie north umpires in north group
etc
Hartley turns 66 in april this year, Bailey is 63 in october,
mallender 65 in august.
Will miss chats with Rob Bailey during the summer months incl
abt Stoke City.

Someone who has more information than I do, can you get the
complete, updated list of the ECB Professional Panel of Umpires?
The ECB isn't very transparent with this information, and with
retirements and replacements, I still can't find a consolidated
list of national umpires.

Neil Bainton did his final piece of “professional” on field
umpiring this evening in a match at Chelmsford to celebrating
Essex CCC’s 150th birthday. He got a lovely guard of honour from
all players and his fellow umpire.

Probably just haunting the Aussies.
In all seriousness i hope he is involved somewhere assuming that
is his wish of course.
