Someone must like him. He's in charge of the EFL Trophy Final,
Luton v Stockport, at Wembley on 12th April.

Well, Dean Watson had an excellent game for me very wise to soft
fouls for both sides and great calm refereeing and got a red
card absolutely spot on endangering an opponent and excessive
force And gave a excellent call for a penalty to him side
dragging the player all over very happy with dean Watson
compared to last time massive win for the home side

I see Danny Cowley is moaning about the officials and them not
being full time. I’m sure elbee is able to explain more, but
Danny says that Colchester had a goal that wasn’t given although
it had crossed the line. And this is the reason why officials
need to full time. However, he said he does feel for them as
he’s been in the role of a part time manager and then working
all day before a game!
I saw this on sky sports news after the highlights were shown.

How does being "full time" help with goal-line decisions?
Invariably, the AR is either in line or not because of the
position of either the ball or the second rear-most defender.
Full time ARs can be in the wrong place for goal line decisions
too.
Also, I would be astonished if either of the ARs today would
have been "working all day" before the game. Yesterday perhaps,
but not today.

Exactly! This is what I was trying to point out. Also, it
would’ve been really difficult to see the clearance off the line
because of how quick play was. It’s one of those things - move
on from it!

Colchester United FC (First Team) v Walsall FC (First Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Brook, Carl
Assistant Referee: Hallam, Aaron
Assistant Referee: Sowerby, Matthew
Fourth Official: Williams, Scott
I know Ryan’s not exactly Danny Cowley’s number 1 fan 😂
I’ll start by saying overall I liked Carl Brook’s performance
today - given we have Carl regularly, it’s lucky that I really
like his style, he typically doesn’t fall for any playacting and
is really persistent about the position of a restart, especially
throws. Those habits were on display again and with exception of
1 foul in the first half I didn’t like (I’m not convinced he saw
it well and just saw a player going to ground out the corner of
his eye), he did well. Walsall goalkeeper perhaps slightly
fortunate not to get booked and the 2 yellows he did give were
straightforward. There was also a penalty shout for Walsall in
the second half that got me more interested than most of the
players, so I assume it’s one Carl got right and my initial
thought of penalty from the other end was incorrect.
Aaron Hallam is a new name for me and if he is new to the EFL, I
thought he did well too, with a couple of tight offsides well
called from my view.
A first for me today too as we had a delay for a drone overhead
- it’s pretty simple for officials to deal with, just needing to
take the players off the pitch and after 5 minutes, we got back
going.
As for the incident in question, I agree and disagree with some
of Danny’s points. The late attempt by Tovide is inconclusive
and a very tight call as to whether is crossed, Danny’s made it
sound obvious and I definitely don’t think it was for Matthew
Sowerby. Whilst Danny can be liable to moan about officials, he
did make it clear that he doesn’t blame the officials and
instead thinks they need more support, such as goal line
technology (specific to this incident) and to go full time -
he’s been an advocate of this for a long time so I don’t think
he’s saying that full time officials would have acted
differently.
A point a piece for 2 teams almost certainly not going anywhere,
a fair result in a somewhat entertaining game.

Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team) v Oldham Athletic FC (First
Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Mather, Simon
Assistant Referee: Tewson, James
Assistant Referee: Moore, Anthony
Fourth Official: Corlett, Matt
Not a lot I can say about Simon Mather this afternoon. He was
calm, unhurried, got most decisions right despite some howls of
anguish from the home and away stands, a tad inconsistent with
cards and ignored an X-rated tackle by an Oldham player, but
otherwise, nothing special but OK. Another late winner for the
home side, you underestimate the Alex at your peril!

Aaron Hallam has been on a few of our games recently, not sure
how long he’s been on the list but he’s likely based up north
which is why he might not have visited Colchester before.
Probably my standout AR for this season been happy with him
every time

I’m not sure how Crewe ended up on 4 bookings compared to
Oldham’s 0. Some of their tackles were firm but fair to say the
least!
A game where Oldham deserved something, but when 2 fabulous
goals and an impressive amount of defending wins you the game,
you can’t help but feel the home side deserved the victory.
Onwards and upwards!

When Mather first appeared on the scene he tended to be a card
shark and some of his games turned into a lottery.
However, he seems to be progressing nicely as we fast forward to
today.
