       C Cakir - Liverpool v Barcelona

Many congratulations to Liverpool for a performance and result
which I am sure anyone but their most ardent supporters felt was
       scarcely achievable.
Cakir played his part too and allowed the game to flow, not
really putting a foot wrong. Certainly, he showed why he must
be so highly regarded within UEFA and his international success
must be encouraging to other referees from the lower echelons of
footballing nations in showing that you don't have to come from
Italy, Germany, Spain, England etc to make it to the top as a
       referee.

Don't think it's a coincidence that his last two games have been
classics - low-key, unobtrusive and clearly respected by the
       players.

Once again though UEFA put a Level 7 competition winner on the
dugouts line. Maybe they will take him to one side and explain
that the first of the basics is being in line with the second
       rearmost defender.
I thought the Referee was, as expected, excellent although I
felt he bought Suarez’s antics for Fabinho’s caution.

What was a Peter Walton watching for the penalty appeal?

In two games running, when everything was frantic around him, he
       was calmness personified.
The looks at players, the hand gestures (calm down). The players
knew he was in control and as such they were two fantastic
       games.
A big call, but I'll say it IMO, probably the best European
referee since Collina. A safe pair of hands on any game.
A shame he has done the Champions League Final as I feel he
would have enhanced an all English game (as proved in the
       quarter final)

I would say Skomina 55%, Rocchi 45%. I can't see past one of
       them.
I hope Cakir gets the Europa League final. Best European ref
since Collina is an interesting question to ponder - I would
have to have a think about that but certainly must be in the
running. He has delivered consistently for some time now whereas
I can think of some who had a few good years only. He's had two
World Cup semi-finals, a Euro semi-final, and multiple Champions
       League semi-finals.
What a week of Champions League football.

I've never been the biggest fan of Cakir over the years, but for
me these past two or three seasons he has really stepped it up
to be one of, if not, Europe's best. The comment about the
respect the players have for him is so true. It just goes to
show that you don't need to be towering over 6ft with a shiny
       head to gain respect.
Gone are the days when I used to dread any European games with
him in charge. He's a joy to watch and I think the Europa League
Final would be a fitting appointment for him, for such a
       tremendous season.

A masterclass from Cakir. Just what a blood and thunder cup tie
needed. I hope he gets the final as he thoroughly deserves it.

For me he was always a safe pair of hands although was strict
and had a very unapproachable look about him but then he changed
his style to be more relaxed, lenient and approachable and I
personally think he has been a much better referee for it. The
new style suited him more and he's gone from being a safe pair
of hands to being one of the best.
