Sunderland v Brighton - T Kirk
By: Joecphillips Date: March 14, 2026, 11:34 am

His terrible week continues clear second yellow not given for a
trip just outside the box, terrible officiating
Should have been given a week off rather than a promotion

Not watched the incident but this sounds quite harsh.
I don’t think 2 decisions should decide whether or not someone
gets a promotion.
I also have no idea what team you suppot, whether it’s
Sunderland, Brighton or you watched the game as a neutral.
Maybe be a bit more considerate before saying someone doesn’t
deserve a promotion after making 2 mistakes.

I'm a sunderland fan. I'm on about moving him up to the premier
league straight after he has made a major mistake that would
normally get a referee demoted for a week not his overall career
to be clear.
Brightin knew it was an obvious 2nd yellow so got him off
immediately

Possibly a supporter of the losing team. I'll make up my mind
watching Match of the Day tonight and will fearlessly agree or
disagree with the non award of a "clear second yellow"

A mistake is a mistake. Deal with it. We all get them. Kirk is a
superb referee.

I’m fairly new to the forum, and happy to criticise/praise
referees when needed; but I think you really should provide a
video before you make such a statement. I’ve not seen it, so
nigh on impossible to have an opinion

Having attended the match, I thought Kirk was pretty good
throughout. With regards to the incident mentioned, my initial
reaction was it would have been a soft second yellow but will
watch with interest later.
Kirk looked at home at this level for me and will hopefully
continue to receive decent appointment.

Having seen it I agree with Mackem ref in his earlier post. It
would have been a soft yellow and hardly warranted the player
being sent off. However, were a caution to have been
administered it would not have been a glaring mistake. A case of
the referee's call and in this instance and set of circumstances
I think Mr Kirk got the call right.

To be fair, the Stoke v Ipswich game came after the appointments
for yesterday were released.
