As to shorty shorts, Clive Thomas's looked quite long compared
to his fellow Welshman Tom Reynolds.
Perhaps it's a Welsh thing. My memory of the referee with the
shortest of shorts is of H D Davies of Wenvoe, (a place only
known from old TV signals.

Is there a photgraph of Mr Davies in officiating action so we
can measure ?

Lester was a very well respected, white topped, white badge man
I met Tom a few times when he was assessing
By 'white badge' do you mean FIFA ? if so then that is something
I had not realised and comes as a surprise.

Me too, Lester was a good referee and thoroughly deserved hls
League Cup Final appointment, however I don't recall he was ever
a FIFA referee.

WOW !!!!!
That is wonderful information.
Glad to see both Mr Bune and Mr Shapter are still with us and
hopefully are both in good health.I wonder if they still watch
football either live or on TV and think about how modern day
referees are under so much scrutiny and have each major decision
scrutinised to the minutest detail.
Of course Mr Richardson and Mr Challis are no longer with us
and my they both Rest in Eternal Peace.
Below is the David Elleray Story which aired a few years ago.a
really good watch and I think Lord Elleray comes out of it with
great credit, both as a teacher and referee.
About 9 mins in Elleray is being assessed at one of his games.
The assessor is the aforementioned Tom Bune.
