Josh Smith - QPR vs Middlesbrough
By: TA_Ref Date: March 8, 2026, 12:40 pm

Nice to hear some positive comments by the Sky Sports
commentators about Josh Smith’s refereeing performance so far
with Lee Hendrie saying he’s refereed it ‘quite beautifully’ so
far.
The commentary team correctly pointed out that Middlesbrough’s
goal in the first half should’ve been disallowed as it went in
off of the strikers arm. But they rightly said it was impossible
to see at full speed in the moment.
Smith is having another good game so far.

Technically, under current intrepretations, should have been
disallowed.
However, the ball was on its way into the goal - no-one spotted
the "offence" in real time and there were no complaints from
QPR. At the risk of being a hypocrite, "the game" did not
expect it to be disallowed and it was morally correct that it
was not disallowed.
(and that comes from a Millwall fan who really, really wanted
Middlesborough to lose!!)

As a boro fan who really wanted us to win…..who cares.
Honestly…no one saw it, it was going in anyway, it was an
absolute accident and to disallow the goal brings the phrase the
law is an ass.
I had to laugh at the phrase controversial opening
goal…controversial to nobody in the ground, that’s for sure!
It also brings up a hypocrisy point…it must have been 5 minutes
after the goal someone picked that up. So Sky can’t be having
discussions about time limits on var checks etc if they only
pick it up themselves that sort of time later.
Great game from Josh in the current climate, nice for a game to
make no mention of the referee.
