Ball just about still rolling when keeper took goal kick.
Correct decision. I’d love to hear the conversation on the pitch
though to verify this was the reason given to the players at the
time of the incident.

Goalscorer also inside the penalty area when the goal kick was
taken, so lots of reasons to disallow it.

The kick is only retaken if all opponents had enough time to
leave the penalty area. Andy Davies got himself in a muddle over
this in a Bradford game a few years ago and had to be bailed out
by James Mainwaring who was on the line at the other end of the
pitch
