Bristol Rovers (First Team) v Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Duckworth, Edward
Assistant Referee: Hetherington, Harley
Assistant Referee: Senior, Mark
Fourth Official: Laflin, George
I wasn’t there (I reffed Crewe 16s instead) nor did I watch it,
but many of the Crewe faithful aren’t complimentary of Ed today.
Until I see the replay, it sounds as though Rovers’ Ellis
Harrison should’ve been straight red carded for a “late, studs
up, out of control” challenge which was only given a yellow.
If this performance is described as true, it’s a completely
different Ed Duckworth I saw back in December.

Ollie Yates had an awful game at Bradford. He’s never
particularly great but that was way below the level today - we
only made one poor tackle and ended up with 6 yellows and a
red!! On the red at least he was brave enough to finally make a
big decision (he always seems to shy away from these when I see
him). Shame he got it wrong and we are likely to lose our best
defender for 3 games - I don’t have any confidence in the
appeals process anymore after our appeal got rejected last
season.
I forgot to mention Koroma should have been sent off in the
first half, which is shown on the highlights, as should Wellens
for stopping Neufville from taking a quick throw stood way
outside his technical area. Wellens’ behaviour to try and get
Baldwin sent off also looks unacceptable, why is the 4th
allowing that..

I’ve only seen him once and he was terrible when he had a live
sky game earlier in the season.
There seems to be a push on him to go further up the ladder from
the powers that be, however it seems consistency is not where it
should be.

Yet to see any highlights from today but would disagree with
Ollie’s general opinion of Ollie! I actually identify him as one
of the better referees for making the big decisions. But that’s
the beauty of this particular level, so many referees so you
only see a referee once or twice a year and get mixed opinions!
I do agree on the Ed Duckworth comment though - I feel like we
see more negative than positive about him on here - i’ve not
seen him myself live, he might be a good official but being
rushed too soon. Farai Hallam has taken to quick progress like a
duck to water, whereas Lewis Smith took a couple of steps back
before finding his feet and now deservedly coming close to
breaking into SG1.
Yet to see much action, but I did see an absolute shocker of a
decision by Alex Chilowicz to not give MK Dons a penalty for a
clean out of their winger. Steven Copeland was also involved in
an unfortunate incident which saw Colchester star striker Micah
Mbick stretchered off with seemingly a bad injury - no foul was
awarded, so i’ll have to watch that one back.

Tranmere Rovers FC (First Team) v Oldham Athletic FC (First
Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Mulhall, Sam
Assistant Referee: Wilding, Darren
Assistant Referee: Buckley, Karl
Fourth Official: Roberts, Jason
An otherwise adequate performance by Mr Mulhall was marred by
one of the worst penalty decisions I have seen in a while.
Oldham player on a one on one break kicks the ball into the
Rovers box. Tranmere keeper Murphy goes down, gets the ball with
both hands and there is then contact between him and the
onrushing attacker. My view at the time wasn't great, as at the
opposite end and side of the ground, but having seen the
highlights footage and had contact from a fan in the Oldham end
it was clear that a penalty was the wrong call with Murphy
winning the ball first. The fact that Mr Mulhall was
well-positioned to see this and failed to do is a concern.

Another solid performance from Aaron at Solihull correctly given
home side a penalty for hand ball from corner player jumped up
clearly had ball and given and I seen it from the away end and
called it straight happy with his no nonsense to cheap little
fouls too

Yes, no Darren Drysdale. Richard Carter in the middle. Done okay
so far.

I’m trying to think of an official in the Southend area that
could have been shipped in to help at short notice if the plea
for help fell on deaf ears in the crowd.
