I can summarise my thoughts of England's performance this
evening in a single word:
Unconvincing

You seem very quick at times to disagree or dislike contributors
who criticise a referee's performance, but personally I felt his
inexplicable failure to caution the shirt tug on Amad early in
the game for what was to me a clear example of SPA contributed
to the perceived lack of authority later as others have
commented. I wouldn't say it was a shocking performance by
Darren England but imo not at the expected level for a PL
referee. He's had far better games and I'm sure will do so in
future.

Was everything ok with your telly? I firmly agree with every
poster on here - that was a poor showing from England and made a
fairly straight forward game much harder than it needed to be
with poor and hap hazard decision making.

I wrote this message without looking at anyone else's opinion on
here. In hindsight I perhaps think that I got it wrong and it
wasn't as I first saw it. We all make mistakes, as did I and
England last night. I dont think he was awful. Subpar perhaps we
could agree on?
One thing I will say. I think referees are overly critiqued. I
therefore always try to look at a performance from a positive
perspective and try to if I can find more good things than bad.
When we talk about the positives it makes everyone feel better.
I dont dislike fairly balanced posts. I dislike posts that I
think are posts that have uneccessarily bashed referees. I just
try to be critical while remaining as positive as possible, as I
like and id like to think everyone on here knows how hard it can
be to be a referee.

After my comment regarding why I prefer Championship football as
opposed to Premiership, another reason is to add the rugby mauls
at corner kicks. How does a referee manage that? Another corner,
another delay. Football coaches are trying to push the LOTG and
arguably the spirit of the game (whatever that may be) to
benefit them. It is human nature, you see it in life generally
when a law is introduced and people will find a way around it.
What can FIFA do as the present farce is not a good view (OK for
me at least).
I see that FIFA are trying to find a way of preventing doubtful
injuries where say the goalkeeper goes down when their team is
under pressure. There is disagreement amongst countries and
furthermore concern about the unintended consequences of changes
to the Laws. I have a lot of time for Eddie Howe but it was his
team that twice adopted the tactic of letting the goalkeeper go
down during a period of pressure and I find it much harder now
to respect him. However, I admit he is not the only one.
