Sunderland V Fulham - Craig Pawson (Tony Harrington)

Interesting penalty decision involving var here for Fulham,
Calvin Bassey looks to be in an offside position gets a slight
shirt pull and goes down this time var gets involved and gives
the penalty, Brentford v Leeds back in December had a similar
incident where the referee had given a penalty and it was
overturned.

Significant and prolonged holding of the shirt not even sure
he’s let go yet he held on so long , clear foul clear Penalty
kick.

I was more interested in discussing the different
interpretations of offside between officials in the premier
league

I would agree that Bassey certainly looks offside. Was very
surprised when that part of things was cleared. But once it was,
it’s a clear foul. You can’t call that ‘a slight shirt pull’,
Brobbey held on for a significant time.
The Sunderland penalty is also a correct decision, and some
dreadful defending from Sessegnon.
Overall, I thought Pawson struggled and put in a below par
performance. Fulham’s Berge should have been booked in the first
half for three fouls in a short space of time, two of which were
for pulling back in midfield. Pawson doesn’t appear to have the
natural authority or confidence of some of his peers. Both sets
of fans have ended up frustrated with his performance.
Great win for Fulham, but think we caught Sunderland on a
particularly bad day.

According to local journalists it wasn’t checked at all as the
holding happened first which would go against what was decided
in Brentford v leeds, it was a very bad performance by
Sunderland got exactly what was deserved.
And to make the day even worse Sunderland have put a statement
out condemning the racist abuse of a player.

Make that 4 incidents in the PL - Hannibal Mejbri, Wesley
Fofana, Tolu Arokodare and Romaine Mundle plus Vinicius Jr
(again!) in the Champions League.
Feels like it's getting worse and that is not acceptable to me.

I’m not sure if it’s overly getting worse. I believe it always
has been like this but thankfully some players now have more
courage to publicly post the regular abuse that they receive.
Players are rightfully sick and tired of the horrible abuse they
receive and those cowards that hide behind their phone and send
these comments should be named, shamed and punished (with
whatever the authorities deem relevant).
Unfortunately, it seems the social media companies are reluctant
to do anything to try and change anything about how this occurs.
And while social media companies remain ignorant, nothing is
going to change.

No, it’s getting worse! You can argue the reasons for that but
there’s no doubt it’s worse than it was ten years ago.
To be honest football is just totally toxic at the moment and
I’m struggling to see where it goes.

Unfortunately i think the problem isnt just in football its a
bigger issue but this isnt a political forum
